I don’t agree with these legal loopholes but I doubt the government will close them all. Let’s face it, I bet half those that donate to the Tory Party are in the same or similar schemes.
Teapot, education and health care etc are not free. They are paid for out of the tax and national insurance contributions.
And what do you have against Civil Servants? Is it all Civil Servants or just those that work for HMRC? I’m a Civil Servant but the tax affairs people is not my remit.

I said if we all decided not to pay taxes they would no longer be free… meaning they would no longer be there….but I think you know full well what I meant.
As far as having something against Civil Servants… no I dont… I was one myself… its true though that in this case they need to get their act together.
I thought you worked in a mortuary? or is that another confusion?
21 June, 2012 at 6:55 pm #499453A friend of mine who works for a relevant government department (sounds so much better than ‘tax inspector’ doesn’t it?) Says basically the people at the top evade tax, the people at the bottom don’t have to pay it or have it balanced out by benefits.
The people in the middle on PAYE and those businesses who don’t evade tax basically pay for the country. A lot is raised through unavoidable revenues – VAT, fuel etc. And by the way money goes through the banking system, investments in currency, Government bonds and so on. However, the ebbs and flows of the balance between current income and current expenditure often have to be covered by borrowing.
I wonder how many highly paid journalists and media commentators who have their salaries paid through shell companies and evade paying tax themselves then condemn this and previous governments for borrowing money? How else are things going to get paid for?
21 June, 2012 at 7:09 pm #499454May I point out that National Insurance is nearly as much as ‘tax’ these days?!! :?
21 June, 2012 at 7:16 pm #499455There have always been creative accountants. If it is not illegal then what is all the fuss about? Is it because we all wish we’d thought of it?
Now then…. I am aware of the fact that without taxes there would be no money to pay our members of parliament, teachers, doctors etc etc etc, but…. we would all be so much better off that we would be able to buy more “stuff” and that would help to end the recession! (my tongue was in my cheek then).
Taxes may be considered a necessary evil, but perhaps there is an alternative. After all, taxes have been about for centuries, if there was a creative and ingenious alternative, wouldn’t we all cheer?

We can’t all decide not to pay our taxes. Most ppl are paid by PAYE which means we are taxed before we receive our wages.
Self employed ppl can quite easily avoid or evade paying tax.
And why are you so concerened about what I do for a living? Why don’t you look it up on these boards if you really are that interested!

Really? Does someone want to tell me how?

I also thought you’d said you worked in a mortuary, so I understand Mrs T’s confusion…

Self employed ppl quite often ask for cash in hand. They may declare some earnings but not all. Easier to hide cash payments so no paying tax on their full income.
Also, self employed ppl can set up their own company, pay themself a small salary and the rest in dividends so lessening their tax burden.
21 June, 2012 at 11:02 pm #4994591% income tax should be applicable to everyone.
I think the government should make it an offence for all employers to pay into that K2 scheme. You just know the BBC are up to their neck in it.

Ah my mistake…I thought you meant legally, the second is legal, not the first.
So do I take it you don’t work in a mortuary?
