I grew up with Janis Joplin alongside the beatles, billy J Kramer, the walker Brothers, Lulu and a whole host of revolutionary groups all vieing to break into the music industry.

One of the female singers that had a great influence on my musical experiences was the late great Janis Joplin.

Janis Lyn Joplin was born January 19, 1943 and died October 4, 1970. In between she led a tumultious life and had a unique talent singing very powerful stomping rock-and-roll/blues.

Janis apparently stood up for the rights of African Americans during the days when racial tension was rife.

Like many artists during those years experimented with drugs and Janis died in 1970 just 27 years old.

14 year old Janis singing take another piece of my heart… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7XJnTy3rmw&feature=related

I’ve always liked hearing Janis sing Summertime. It’s a pity we haven’t really had the weather to do it justice this year.
