I’ve not commented on this thread so far because to be honest, despite the amount of time I’ve chatting and the kinds of things I’ve seen being said in the past, I really couldn’t believe what I was seeing expressed here.
PB, I do believe it’s real, she is showing all the same reactions as normal people placed in such a position, and whilst she’s never shied away from making money along the course of her life, quite frankly I don’t think she’s that good an actress.
My heart goes out to her and all who suffer from this awful disease, it is a totally indiscriminate disease that is no respector of fame, fortune, status, whether children will be left behind etc. It is easy to be cynical, and to ask why famous people are getting so much air-time when so many “ordinary” people also suffer, but the good side of this is that people take heed from seeing all the publicity. 5 of my friends have admitted they haven’t had a smear test in years and have now booked one, and I wonder how many more women have done the same across the country. The same happened with women checking their breasts etc. after Kylie was diagnosed – I doubt that any paid-for advertising campaign could achieve the same kind of results.
16 February, 2009 at 1:30 pm #390939I entirely accept the above points – made most eloquently if I may say so. Of course if her illness is genuine, no reasonable person can fail to have anything but absolute compassion for her predicament.
I guess my problem (and it is probably mine alone) is that I am very cynical – especially when people in the ‘public eye’ are concerned. As I said, I simply cannot help thinking “What if…..???”
I suppose that only time will tell. The Media have reported that she has only got a couple of months remaining, so I guess we’ll see if I am right or not pretty rapidly.
16 February, 2009 at 1:56 pm #390940I doubt that you’re the only one that is cynical PB, so many were when she was told the news when she’d just joined the Indian BB house, and have been all the way through. Strange that she found her “fame” through a so-called reality show, yet here we are discussing what may or may not be real…..
If what is being said in the press is true, then she has secondary cancer in the same organs as a friend of mine who lost her life to this awful disease in November last year. Jade has also apparently been on the same experimental drug as my friend. Right to the end my friend looked healthy, and she had a peaceful passing in that the pain was negligible and she simply ate less and slept more and more until her time came. In her last few weeks she looked healthier than she had done for years – no doubt down to the fact that she was no longer being ravaged by chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
If Jade goes down the same route, no doubt she will also look healthy, and more people will join you on the cynical side….as you say, time will tell.
16 February, 2009 at 9:39 pm #390941But.. She’s going to be an Inspiration.. Good on her for this New Book too!
It will probably encourage other females to come to terms with their Cancer. No parent ever wants to be faced with that eternal Nightmare of knowing that they’re dying and that they have to leave their kids behind! There’s nothing Fake about her. People can feel, but will never understand until they’re faced with the same Nightmare.
I hope she makes enough from the book too, so that her children can be well Looked after. Ok, money isn’t everything, but it will help.
I kind of admire her. She came from “Nothing”.. She made millionaires. That’s quite an achievement. Yes, she was helped along the way, but still,.. She made something of herself.
I’m not a Big Fan, but i pity anyone who has to go through what she has to, every second of every day. And i feel for her kids too. Anyone who’s a parent will understand what i mean.
17 February, 2009 at 8:19 am #390942I was getting a Kebab last night on my way back home, and as I waited I noticed a copy of The Sun on the counter. Right across the front page was a piccy of Jade Goody. Being a curious sort of chap, I read the article inside.
I have to confess that, in the light of this two page spread, my gross cynicism may well have been misplaced and that judging from the photos and long detailed article, the poor girl sure appears to be terminal. It was a pretty heart rending story that’s for sure.
Interesting that the entire tone of the article was most compassionate towards her – whereas The Sun’s previous stance was one of insult and derision.
In one sense, I hope that my gross cynicism is right, because if so then she won’t die an unpleasant death. However I have to admit that is doesn’t look good for her.
Well, either way she is a bit of a character and a lot of people are soon going to be very sad or absolutely furious.

She aint some inhuman monster or evil but the fact is she’s probably gonna die and thats the only relevant thing Any other mention of her “talent” or promiscuity is beyond contempt to be honest
^^Far and away the best post made so far on this thread in my opinion.
Short. Succinct. Sincere.Although that’s not to say that a good deal of the rest haven’t been made without honour, sympathy and compassion.
Some of the more supposed self proclaimed “cynical” posturing has indeed been.. beyond contempt, showing the true shameful colours and real rancour of a few.. thinly brushed over with almost begrudging, ineffectual platitude ; and deserving no further comment. Well, not from me anyhow.

17 February, 2009 at 2:46 pm #390945shes terminally ill and i feel sorry , but i wasnt one of the millions that used to call her allsorts and now “poor jade ” find all that very 2 faced
17 February, 2009 at 3:35 pm #390946I have to agree – the tabloid Media left no stone unturned in their denigration of her; every possible insult was thrown at her; now all of a sudden they are feeling sorry for her predicament.
But then I guess that tabloids are all about appealing to the lowest common denominator aren’t they?

I’m not sure what worries me most here: the fact you need to mention your kebab on this thread or that you didn’t realise – until you read it in The Sun – that yes, she is going to die and that your cynicism was indeed misplaced.
