You could take up trainspotting Tommy. Just imagine the pleasure of sitting on a railway embankement, wrapped up nice and warm in a duffel coat with a knitted scarf snugly tucked in and a cosy bobble hat keeping your head wam.
You reach for your thermos flask and pour out a lovely warming cup of hot Bovril …. or even vedgetable soup …. asnd suddenly >>>> WHOOOOOOOSH >>>> along comes the 3.17 from Crewe. Yes it’s a 3 – 2 – 3 with the special De Havilland bogies. Check the wheels … check the carriages … check the bogie alignment … yes it IS the one you’ve been waiting for all those months. Ohhhh the sheer pleasure of spotting it!!!

Yes, I see it now, it’s coming through the station, I’m watching it, heading right towards me.. It’s.. It’s a beautiful sight, I look down onto the tracks right below me, and there, gently vibrating ontop of the tracks from the oncoming train, is a tied up man named Charles, doomed to a horrible, probably painful death….. !!

How about you take up fishing then???
Just imagine the pleasure of thrusting a sharp hook into the guts of a nice juicy worm and watching it wriggle in its death throes. You lower it into the water (worms don’t drown quickly) and wait for a fish to bite into it.
Suddenly ….. WHAP …. you jerk the rod with a mighty flick of your muscular wrist (where have I heard that expression before???) and the sharp hook is rammed into the fish’s mouth and sticks fast into its jawbone.
It struggles and fights to live, but with an inexorable certainty you drag it out of the water and leave it to choke to death on the bank.
Now surely THAT is a hobby that any red-blooded man can be proud of???
If I was 40 years older and owned a pair of wellies, I’d give it a try.
I think I’ll stick to taking the p!ss (using humour, ofcourse!) out of complete sad acts who deserve it! A hobby every jolly young man enjoys, surely!
