Mother held as son made to kill pet

A woman is in jail after police say she forced her 12-year-old son to kill his pet hamster with a hammer as punishment for bad grades.The sheriff of a rural Georgia county said that the boy told his teacher about the killing. The teacher then reported it to state child welfare authorities, who in turn contacted police.
Lynn Middlebrooks Geter, 38, faces charges of animal cruelty, child cruelty and battery.
Police said she remains in jail and it is not immediately known if she has a lawyer.
I have also heard that the boy was allowed to hold a special service in order to give the Hamster a decent funeral. His aunt put on a great spread, telling friends,..
“Help yourself to nibbles.. He was a Good Hamster, but it’s what he would have wanted!”It’s serious, but I shouldn’t be making fun, I mean, it’s not exactly Great Parenting, if she wanted to punish him, (if she felt this being neccessary) maybe she should have stopped his pocket money, taken away his computer, etc..

Well I think it is a really harsh punishment for getting bad grades. After all the hamster probably tried as hard as it could – it wasn’t its fault that it got bad grades. Surely it could have had another chance at taking its exams???

Not now, it’s had a hammer to it’s head, and gone to Hamster Heaven.
Where do these Hamsters get off?.. They should be out there, doing their bit for their country!
