I think it pretty obvious now that Hamas are the aggressors here and not, as they’d have us believe, Israel.
The sooner the rest of the world realise that the better, maybe then some pressure could be put on Hamas to come up with a workable solution, rather than blaming the situation on a country thats simply trying to exist in a hostile part of the world surrounded by enemies.20 January, 2009 at 12:55 pm #388238Absolutely right Giselle. I suspect that Hamas deliberately provoked the Israelis into defending themselves by continually firing rockets and mortar bombs across the border for many many months – whilst pretending to observe the last ‘ceasefire’.
Two things stick in my gullet about this entire situation. There are acknowledged to be numerous “smuggling tunnels” under the border between Egypt and Gaza and yet both the Egyptians and the Arab allies of Hamas (Syria, Lebanon and of course Iran) all conspire to ignore the implied arms embargo and tacitly permit (and indeed actively encourage) the supply of rockets, bombs and explosives into Gaza – fully knowing that they will be used against Israel.
The other thing is the constant complaining to the Media by Hamas that the ‘Palestinian people’ are being starved and so on by the so-called Israeli blockade – preventing food and ‘humanitarian’ supplies from crossing the Israel / Gaza border.
So suddenly they can’t use their numerous “smuggling tunnels” to bring food in for their dearly beloved ‘Palestinian people’? Apparently it seems that they cannot even use their substantial transport infrastructure to truck foodstuffs legally across the Egypt border as well.
Strange that eh?
20 January, 2009 at 3:19 pm #388239Going back to my origanel question…
” Do you think this is a last gasp by israel before they know they will no longer get away with it “.
Think israel has answerd that ( yes ) by announceing they will have withdrawn there forces by 5pm, the same time that obama takes his oath of office.
20 January, 2009 at 10:57 pm #388240Yes I also wondered of the two things are linked.
It does seem mightily coincidental that the Israelis chose the last few days of Bush’s presidency to do their thing with Hamas – especially as an outgoing President with only a week or two left in office would hardly be likely to undertake a major new initiative in the Middle East.
Whether I am right or wrong on this, it sure was a cute piece of timing by the Israelis – and Hamas must have been spitting nails.

and ball bearings, and nuts and tacks. and anything else that can be crammed into a pipe bomb. in the name of peace of course. 8)
28 January, 2009 at 3:47 pm #388243I was surprised to learn that Israel censors military info and even banned international reporters from conflict areas. Here is an underground site called Israeli Uncensored News http://samsonblinded.org/news which runs some very odd reports.
