And that may be the problem. A “good bloke/woman” is what we have been taught to be. By whom? Those who have an interest in influencing us to do whatever is necessary to keep them in influential, powerful positions?
Emma is making more and more sense all the time.I produced a thread about our individualism.
It didnt spark the kind of human individualism that human kind would expect…
Who are we?
Are we part of the world wide commercial blag?
Lets face it, who isnt strong enough to disbelieve the goggle box (TV)?
What percentage of what you know, came from the media?
What percentage of what you find out about modern day society, comes from literally going out and phisically/mentaly gathering information yourself?
Do you prefer to just be told when it happens? Does that make you lazy? Do you care?
Do you ask questions? If not, should you be?

You make a very good and simple point Mad.
The “when in Rome” brigade fail to recognise that when we Brits are abroad, we have absolutely no respect for the country we are in, the local customs or the people. Yet expect “foreigners” to respect this country when they’re here. Hypocrisy of the highest order.
HOLD ON A MINUTE, so now your admitting that when you go abroad, you have “absolutely no respect for the country you are in, the local customs or the people”.
:?
What was it about generalising earlier slayer.
Mum should’ve used more soap on you

Why can’t people learn the English grammatical language, before attempting to converse in it.
The term “we” is not personal, its a collective noun a generalising term, I could have typed the same words, inferring the same thing yet as someone who hasn’t been on an overseas holiday, your post would make no sense, as it doesn’t now.

Emma spouts some shyte Tiler , but you are not very far behind her – and as far as English grammar goes “we” is used more in the personal – or in taking the “pee” than it ever is a collective noun

My point, clearly lost, was if you wish to stereotype any section of society, any country, any race, any creed, you can do so….but it is through ignorance you do so not from any knowledge or understanding of that said race, creed etc.

yeah, lets have an English day at Alton Towers”
Ignorance is rife, deep inside your mind :(
You also told me your a LCFC fan (Lincoln), now your a ram shagger, both or just one of them?

Butlins near Skegness holds a week long Christian youth festival where anyone can go BUT they are expected to behave in a Christian manner etc… and hey, thats ok too just like Muslim day at Alton towers (NOTE Muslim day NOT Muslim only Day)
If a section of society is continually demonised and singled out because they seek to do what every other section of society does, do not be suprised when they react against that- the Emma’s of this world (assuming she is not a Troll which I wouldnt give her credit for) simply demonstrate a breathtaking ignorance, whether intentional or not
Because we are a predominately Christian country Slayer – we don’t want to be taken over by Islam
The vast majority of people believe that – but are branded racist of whatever so they dont say much
You are in the minority in this – by a long way – but as usual – you have the most to say about it !!!
If you want to live in this country – when in Rome ……. – do as we bloody do –
I have to say you provide me with so much entertainment Drivel. I havent posted on here for 2 weeks and hardly at all in the last 2 months so I would hardly class myself as having most to say.
As I’ve said so many times before, “When in Rome” only applies to “foreigners” here of course and doesnt apply to Brits abroad then- “Do as I say, not as I do” would be more appropriate
A Muslim day at Alton Towers is about as far away from an Islamic takeover as it is possible to get except for those who wish to add their warped perception on it.
And for the record we are a Church of England nation predominantly and I don’t see you waving banners decrying catholicism (I bet Catholic Churches outnumber Mosques 5 to 1) when the Catholic church criticises or is offended by the things we do. Narrow minded, blind and ignorant.
And you are a twisted warped old man Slayer – to return your compliments
I am no way A BNP member or supporter – but I do feel the majority of people in this country feel the same way as I do about other religions “taking” over
I’m not particularly religious although I am Christened and confimed
We are not talking about the behaviour of Brits on holiday abroad – we are talking about people coming to live in this country and not giving 2 hoots to our customs or laws
With you views on our country you should definitely emigrate
Old, old!! Cheeky mare- Im still the right side of 40- warped and twisted I will accept with gracious compliments
Y’see Drivel, if you want to talk about religions taking over then fine but it is a generic rather than specific issue- we have many different religions here (the Lonely Planet lists 7 different ones I think) and each have a different or disparate set of values and beliefs- whether it be Catholicism, Islam, Hinduism etc.
And each will occasionally object to parts of our way of life (the Catholic church was recently heavily preaching against any form of abortion and very strongly against a womans right to chose her own form of birth control- didnt hear anyone condeming the Catholic church for doing that but if it had been Islam the reaction would have “trying to change our culture, etc etc ) or how we live our life. But why cant they, they’re just as British as you and me…they have a right to an opinion and it is as valuable as mine or yours.
What I object to is the demonisation of one religion with the guilty by implication inferences. Islam has done nothing differently than other religions in this country yet because of the global radicalisation of Islam by extremists, it is tainted with a brush of “all terrorists, all want to take over the UK etc etc”. This simply isnt true and hence my views on this thread reflect this.
The vast vast majority of Muslims are no different than the vast vast majority of all other Britons- peaceful, law abiding and proud to be both British and Muslim. Just as there were (and continue to be) extreme Catholic and Protestants both in N Ireland and Scotland, there will be extremist Muslims who are British too- it is a fact ot life but not a fact of vilification of a whole religion.
As for emigration, Ive been around the world, but there’s no place like home n this is it…for all its faults…

/clicks….ya KNOW what…!! im sooo happy to be British :) but im that wee bit different as i go abroad,,learn the language, eat the food and smile :) as an international socialist..i can ask in any language,,how to ask for food/drink and how to discuss politico!
many a GREAT argument in mallorca, over the stormin troops o francos boots :) of Catalonia ! catalunya! yo soy senora contenta! y escosesa! ..
man.. i love the spanish!
A woman after my own heart- the reaction, anywhere in Spain, when you ask for a meal in Spanish is one of genuine appreciation. I had the same argument one night in Ibiza town Ruby over Franco- he still casts a long shadow over there (I woder how many tourists know who Franco is?!!)
17 July, 2006 at 10:28 pm #230493I’ve been looking at websites of various British fringe political parties ranging from far-left to far-right. Together with the big parties, nobody seems to be offereing a proper philosophy on how to deal with the threats that face us.
The far left have got into bed with islamic fundamentalists and focus their hatred on Bush, Blair and Israel while ignoring Al Qaeda, Iran etc.
The far right go for Blair too because he’s perceived as a PC loony leftist, although he’s about as left-wing as Margaret Thatcher was!
I think there is a yawning chasm, a crying need, for a ‘new-left’ movement throughout Europe that fights its own corner and does not cow-tow to either the USA or the demands of the two emerging islamic empires, a shia one driven by Iran and the other a wahabbi sunni one driven by Al Qaeda.
We need a new creed of humanist, humanitarian socialism that will take on anyone, be they islamic hate preachers, Christians with their symbolic human sacrifice called ‘holy communion’, big corporations, nasty celebrities, the monarchies of Europe or whoever.
17 July, 2006 at 10:35 pm #230494I noticed you’d mentioned something similar on a different thread, Bass. I agree the far left and the Islamists make very strange bedfellows indeed but why do you think socialism holds out the best hope rather than any other secular approach?
17 July, 2006 at 10:44 pm #230495I’m not really a socialist, but I could adapt! As natural resources diminish and the energy gap grows, the demand-led economy will inevitably give way to a supply-led economy.
I’m not really talking about a political party like in the USSR etc so much as a social movement that does the job of a modern religion without resorting to fairy tales, superstition and promises of unverifiable and highly improbable rewards.
