To me (stuff the dictionary) Bigot = ignorant!

ignorant • adjective 1 lacking knowledge or awareness in general. 2 (often ignorant of) uninformed about or unaware of a specific subject or fact. 3 informal rude; discourteous.

Being a bigot doesn’t mean your ignorant. If you dont go on the dictionary, what language you speaking? Every word you use above, is in the dictionary…

I know of some gay males, and one in particular, he’s an absolutely brilliant friend, would do just about anything for you, and helped me out once when no one else could or would.

What i dont like about him, and most gay males is the way they talk, its so lar de dar, it turns me off them completly. Another, is man on man sex acts.

Im quite happy to be called anything for not liking gay men in that way.

It is then also bigotry when a gay man doesn’t like hetrosexual sexuality, or a specific way they behave, and that is the case, because they dont have hetrosexual sex.

We have a problem in society, its about defending minorities regardless of what majorities feel. “we” dont mind upsetting majorities for the sake of minorities, thats WRONG! You can defend all people without upsetting anyone in the process.

If homophobia is bigotry, then those who dont like George bush, bin laden, plain flavoured crisps, Accrington Stanley FC, are bigot’s.

LIKE i said stuff the dictionary!

Thanks to the person that PM’d them to me, saved me finding them… poor Stephen, his persecution complex will be heightened now.

:-s Sounds like you’ve your own little snidey PM system going. Either that or, of course, you’re the one with the persecution complex. Or is it one rule for you and one for everyone else?

As for the thread, I don’t think the bigotry of homophobia and arachnophobia can be compared since Emma defined a bigot as a person who is prejudiced in their views and intolerant of the opinions of others. Arachnids don’t have opinions. Well, that Charlotte did but she was a quite exceptional web-spinner chapette.

    ‘Course you do.

prejudice • noun 1 preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or experience. 2 unjust behaviour formed on such a basis. 3 chiefly Law harm that may result from some action or judgement.

tolerant • adjective 1 showing tolerance. 2 able to endure specified conditions or treatment.
intolerant 2 unable endure specified conditions or treatment.

You cant have a preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or experience of spiders?

You cant be unable to endure specified conditions or treatment of spiders?

You can, so if being homophobic means your a bigot, the same applies to people who suffer from Arachnophobia.

Emma, you yourself defined a bigot as a person who is prejudiced in their views and intolerant of the opinions of others. Not or, and. Therefore you can be unfairly prejudiced towards spiders, squashing those that mean you no harm, pulling the legs off others because you mistakenly think they deserve it etc., but you can’t be bigoted about it since arachnids don’t have opinions of their own to be intolerant of and, according to your definition, a bigot needs to be both prejudiced and intolerant of another set of views.

Hope this clears it up for you.
