Is it bigotry to suffer from Arachnophobia?
The Oxford English Dictionary states:
homophobia:
“an extreme and irrational aversion to homosexuality and homosexuals.”Irrational:
“Not logical or reasonable, which is opinion, as is extreme”Aversion:
“A strong dislike or disinclination”Disinclination:
“A reluctance to do something”Homophobia, is just a strong dislike. It is not bigoted to dislike spiders…
Bigot:
“a person who is prejudiced in their views and intolerant of the opinions of others.”Bigotry has nothing to do with sexual preference.

Bigotry has everything to do with hating someone solely because of their sexuality.

So Arachnophobia is bigotry? Someone who dislikes spiders, is a bigot?
HOW MANY PEOPLE DISLIKE SPIDERS, come on, hands up? Who dislikes anything?
bigot, bigot, bigot….theres millions of bigots.
22 August, 2006 at 12:43 am #237082I think the term homophobe is misused. As is the term paedophile.
People who hate gays because they’re gay aren’t homophobes.
People who harm children aren’t paedophiles.22 August, 2006 at 12:52 am #237083You’re stalking again Geoff.

Bigot:
“a person who is prejudiced in their views and intolerant of the opinions of others.”You said
Bigotry has everything to do with hating someone solely because of their sexuality.prejudice • noun 1 preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or experience. 2 unjust behaviour formed on such a basis. 3 chiefly Law harm that may result from some action or judgement.
• verb 1 give rise to prejudice in (someone); make biased. 2 chiefly Law cause harm to (a state of affairs)
tolerant • adjective 1 showing tolerance. 2 able to endure specified conditions or treatment.
Wheres the hatred?
22 August, 2006 at 1:09 am #237086It’s about phobia and bigotry. Phobias are beyond our control, bigotry is chosen.
Edit Therefore a genuine homophobe is not a bigot.
