Does anyone know why I keep getting messages popping onto my screen telling me my computer is about to crash because my registry is corrupt and that I should go somewhere such as http://www.repairreg. I’ve had about 10 different sites suggested, non of which I’ve visited as there’s nothing wrong with my registry as my computer does not keep crashing.
I’vw just had another from MSOFT saying I have a buffer overflow and I should go to http://www.wupdate.com and that I’m infected with a virus.
BTW, I have not long since installed Yahoo instant messanger, think maybe I might uninstall it if this is what happens.Simon

You have the Sassa virus. If you don’t have an anti-virus program then you only have yourself to blame.
Thanks. Just done google search on Sassa virus. Perhaps to save me spending the rest of today sorting this, does you or anyone know the best way to deal with it.
17 June, 2005 at 1:50 pm #113260Now then…. I’ve downloaded and run the malicious virus detection and removal software from microsoft. It has not found any virusses. Now what….
I have got Zone Alarms firewall which includes some virus scanning stuff, I think….Sim

On XP, go to run, type msconfig, hit ok, then click the start up tab, then uncheck the box next to msnmsgs.

29 June, 2005 at 2:57 pm #113263Just got back from a weeks holiday to find the problem has gone away by itself. Is that strange, or what??

12 July, 2005 at 1:35 pm #113264Well, that last message wasn’t quite true. Those annoying messages came back to plague me. Now I have followed Titanias instructions and switched off messenger in the services in administritive tools., and so far, they’ve gone.
So, thanks Titania for your help. But now, I think that I’ve switched off a feature that although I’ve never used, could have been quite useful, and so I’ve allowed the ad agencies or whoever they are to win. Not that I’ll ever notice the difference.
Anyway, all the best to all who replied to this thread.Simon
