Internet friendships have greater control over which aspects of our character we show to other people than we do in our everyday friendships. This is why people worry about deception on the internet. And it is a real concern -some people will have experienced the individual who adopts a false persona, Iv seen people say its a chat room it isnt real, whose typing at the other end of the screen? it isnt a robot its a real person. I want to know if people think internet friendships can be genuine????

Yes they do work sumtimes,one of my closest friends is sum1 i met in a chat room around nine years ago,we’ve neva met in person tho.
You do have to be very careful though,you have to really trust sum1 to call them your friend especially if u meet in sumwhere like this. There are a lot of fakes around who are just out to cause trouble but theres those decent few who like me come in here just to chat and meet new ppl and yes sumtimes u do make sum really good friends which is why i’m here lol

Lucy, i’m quite a skeptical person but i can say that i’ve met some pretty genuine people on here. A handful of people i even trust. I know alot of people say it’s just a chatroom…but doesn’t mean none of us have feelings and are not real. Just sayin… :D

I hear u sassy iv met sum lovely people and also met sum bad ones :? and yes i do agree some of us do av feelings. Just saying :P

Computers lack body language which is key in communicating between humans and animals alike, i believe that if you can trust the friend without the ability to see them then you have a real friend fact, this should also count for relationships which goes without saying lol, on the downside to this is as soon as you doubt the other person then its basicly over full stop! I have a few friends throu the net which ive seen outside this place and it does work, unfortunately not everyone ive spoken too on here dont see it that way so seem to give me a miss so i guess its there loss lol
p.s. this is my boards name so im a evil bad person whom cannot be trusted lol
I have met some really lovely people on here who im very good friends with and who i trust deepy, but there are the idiots, the name haders and the fakes that make being friends and trusting people on here hard work! I am terrible for the whole “words on a screen i dont care thing” but thats generally towards the idiots who im not friends and with the dickheads causing trouble, with those people it really is a case of words on a screen and i dont give a f**k. Also, you do get the people who you think are your friend and then they stab you in the back or make nasty remarks in chat, once something like that happens, the trust is gone and the friendship is never the same. All that aside, the majority of the time the people are genuine and you can form some really strong friendships with people on here, just be careful of who u trust and how much u trust them until u are sure they are genuine :)
I think like everything else, it’s subjective to each case/person etc.
I do have people I met from chat that I can proudly call friends and others are just words on a screen to me.
