Today is International womans day.
What woman inspires you either in your life, someone youve read about or perhaps a celeb ?.
9 March, 2012 at 3:38 pm #490285Today its a woman in work.
There is a campaion over here called “Shave or Dye” and the slogan is “You Never Look Stupid Fighting Cancer”
Today 5 men and 1 woman got their heads shaved (fully) for this cause in front of the entire building, memebers of the public and the newspapers.
It took guts from all esp from Caroline who fair play went from long bloned hair to a tight no. 2 all over.
Cancer is something that WILL effect most peoples lives if not all in one way or an other.
There are a few women in the other building who have dyed their hair illuminus pink and a few others who went bright green.

Fought cancer for years, while helping, and I mean really helping, those suffering from it. Or old age. Sometimes it’s the same thing you know.
I never read about her, nor was she an international celeb but . . . . . . . she’s a tiny wee bit inspirational. When I think of her now I feel full of porridge and strength. It was so strange not getting a card last xmas !
Every time I visit the grave the sun shines with a knowing and patient look at my silliness.
In fact, I can’t get over how much it shines every time.10 March, 2012 at 8:15 am #490287awwww hugs, and I mean it! mwa mwa xxx
10 March, 2012 at 12:44 pm #490288I think we all read books, newspapers ect and read about all sorts of amazing accomplishments and we wish we could mirror it in some way, or even something silly like read a mag and think i wish i looked like that.
But after reading this from Toy (hugs from me too xxxx) and Dubbs its the men/ woman who battle illness or go thru the day to day troubles that life can bring, raising a family ect that are in their own way extraordinary.
Its the people who help others thru illness or as Dubbs said take the time to help raise money for a cause close to their heart or carers that dont seem to get the appropiate degree of help needed that are our unsung hereos.
I was thinking over the last cple of days who i was going to put here as my inspiration and i think i will put my friend who i think i mentioned in a different post who has a young son who is a serving soldier, her courage is huge even though she is in a constant state of worrying about him.
10 March, 2012 at 3:35 pm #490289I find it hard to pick just one woman, there are so many women in my real life – not in magazines, books, films, but everyday women – that, in their own quiet unassuming way, are inspirational. Most have found their strength in times of adversity, be it ill health or circumstances, and have been shining examples of how to face life’s adversities with grace and dignity and without losing sight of, or compassion for, their fellow man. Not all survived their adversity but those that died left behind such a legacy.
If I had to pick a woman in the public eye then it would have to be Rosa Parks. Her quiet determination when she decided enough was enough and said “no”. Initially one woman standing (or in her case, sitting) alone, little realising what a catalyst for change she would become or how it would turn her and her husband’s life upside down.
Take all your celebrity magazines with pampered, spoilt, airbrushed women who bask in admiration that few of them have earned and stick them where the sun don’t shine; let’s celebrate real women who have earned the right to that admiration and hold them up to our children as examples of how to live.
10 March, 2012 at 4:07 pm #490290I agree 100% about Rosa Parks, i put her in the f3 boards who would u like to have dinner with, i was shocked wen another chatter asked who is Rosa and i think it was Dubbs who had to explain what Rosa had did. She is a true example of strength. Who knows if President Obama would be sitting in the house he is now without people like her.

I actually googled the article.
Is there really a need for people to shave their heads or dye their hair hideous colours as to raise money for Cancer??
Can’t people just donate money to the Cancer Society without having to put people through such nonsense?
Speaks volumes about today’s society…one gives nothing, without having something in exchange.
In this case, it’s people ridiculising themselves.
The show must go on….
The thread is about women who inspire and all you can do is put people down…and you have completely missed the point of the campaign. Truly inspiring
11 March, 2012 at 9:09 pm #490293No blossom its not necessary to shave or dye your hair to raise money, but it suits the slogan “You never look stuipd fighting Cancer” as most people fighting this will lose their hair, men, women and children so its uplifting so see other people willing to shave their heads to make others feel better and know their not alone in one of their darkest times.
This thread is about women who inspire and like Jen i find it hard to pick just one woman as many throughout time have exceeded the expections and suceeded in a area never ventured before by a woman.
