This is from our local newspaper, it is written by a pupil of a local school, i was actually impressed enough with his thinking to post and share it here!

“is it selfish for someone to become a mum at 66 years old ?”

Contrast.. 2 mothers in the news recently, one young, 27 and the other 66 year old Elizabeth Ardeney, who was 66 when she gave birth to her first child. I can’t help thinking there is something wrong with having a baby at 66.
First of all it’s not biologically possible without intervention, so is it “natural”? She is a single mum will she have the energy to look after the baby?
Then the limited life expectancy, odds being the child won’t have a mum in his teens and early adulthood…… isn;t 66 just a bit selfish ?
i’m not saying she will be a bad mother though, the younger mother i was referring to earlier is baby P’s mum.
The suffering inflicted on Baby P is distressing and he would have infinitely better off with Elizabeth Ardeney wouldn’t he ?
so my point is, perhaps we shouldn’t focus all our attention on the time someone has with their mum, more on what their mum puts into the time she has with their child. i know who’s son i’d rather be.

I have left out some of the padding in the article, but i was impressed the way he made the contrast, i know i for sure would just have told of the selfishness and wrong doing of what Elizabeth Ardeney did having a baby at that age, but this young man makes a damn good point, i guess it is down to quality rather than quantity as with many things in life, and i’m sure there isn’t one of us that wouldn’t, if in that situation, have chosen Elizabeth Ardeney versus Baby P’s mother, to be our mum.

i quite agree Pol MUM xx and it would seem that the young person who wrote the article could teach a few of us about contrast and non judgemental attitude, its a creditable bit of writing :)
