Wonders…should we have an area on the boards where new people can introduce themselves and be welcomed like other boards do? Just a thought….
15 March, 2010 at 11:37 am #315784Thank you jen-jen and kent!! I was joined before as “Cass” but I couldnt remember my password and the email address I had registered with that name got deleted and so thought it easier just to create a new account, and then forgot about the boards really lol I’m usually in the chat. But thank you for the warm welcome :D :D
I agree jen-jen they should!16 June, 2010 at 10:08 pm #315785If counting sheep, listening to music and hiding under the covers don’t work, what do you try for sleep then? Chat until u can keep ur eyes open no longer? I’m open to any suggestions cos I can’t sleep most nights and I’ve tried everything you can imagine.

17 June, 2010 at 7:53 am #315787I’m sparko the second my head touches the pillow….even during the day if i lay down I can sleep  … can imagine it must be awful for insomniacs…..
What about sleeping pills? Surely if you are really struggling they can’t be that bad can they?17 June, 2010 at 8:10 am #315788sleeping pills don’t work. All they do is help you to nod off ( if you’re lucky ) but don’t sustain sleep. I have suffered with insomnia for a very long time and when my doctor first put me on sleeping pills I found I would fall asleep literally where ever I was within about 15 minutes but then would be wide awake within 30 minutes. All it does is encourage you to try more and more sleeping pills at the same time, which obviously isn’t a good thing, and neither did it make any difference on the time asleep !!
meditation, yoga, camimile tea, lavender, long hot soak, aromatherapy, hot milky drink, whisky, a movie, a good book are just some of the sugesstions a sleep clinic would recomend. Also, stress can be a factor and it is often suggested that instead of laying there with everything swimming around in your head you should put pen to paper to remove it all ! I think these can work on someone who is usually a good sleeper but just can’t sleep for whatever reason but I think for most real insomniacs nothing really works and it is just a way of life.
over the years I have tried many things to help sleep but they rarely work. I guess your body just gets used to it and it becomes normal.
I must also say, I was almost misled by the heading of the thread . . took to page 3 really to find the relative posts  not that we go off topic on these boards often !

And this thread dates back to 2008, it only really got on topic in 2010…just goes to show it’s not all down to us!
I’ve had good results with hypnotherapy clients with insomnia, has anyone tried that?
17 June, 2010 at 11:53 am #315790Read a book and do NOT have a HOT bath just before bed, you should be cool when trying to sleep
