From my own view point not repairing sea defences or carrying out gas checks puts lives and homes at risk. The winter storms didnt stop and nor did we.
The whole concept of lockdowns and key workers was deeply flawed from the beginning.
The ecconomy is very complex and tightly integrated, sea defenses can’t be repaired without a whole host of other products and services in their supply chains.
25 May, 2021 at 11:05 am #1139815That is true to a point. Most of the time we’re pushing shingle back and repairing groins. On rivers its mostly reinforcement work and channel clearing.
We don’t use that much stuff, but it can be labour intensive.

That’s somewhat of a narrow view. No matter how much labour you put in you can’t repair anything without any tools or materials. These need concrete, wood, steel, petrol, ect.
The manufacturing of these things then depends on many other things, which depend on other things. The whole ecconomy is integrated, you can’t remove any individual part of it without breaking everything else.
E.g. The production of concrete requires water, which requires computer systems that monitor water quality, which require coders, which require a call center to tell them that there is a problem, which requires telephones, which require telecom engineers, who require food, which requires farmers, who require vets, who require drugs, who require production of various chemicals, ect.

He bloody better look hard because my friend dont want him at home lol
25 May, 2021 at 11:43 am #1139821We only use piling on rivers…there no time for concrete to set.
See:
And due to changing environment and weather conditions, there’s large stocks of materials in storage for use at short notice.
As for the computers, phones and more… well I hate to say this but there not really needed. There a time saver and nothing more. A man walking along the river bank can spot issues and then get on his cycle and peddle down to the yard.

You missed the point again…
25 May, 2021 at 12:29 pm #1139825GE..Lol.. too bad you don’t understand. If I talk short sentences don’t understand, I explain don’t understand.
I took the covid vaccines because I want to travel, and with out them I will be unable to travel. Main reason. And before you say I am selfish..yep..Worked dam hard and saved to do it my personal goal. I am not a achololic, or drug user who needs to buy those things.
Now of course to travel or with those clients I work with I would be heartless to not say.. and to protect them from me if I contacted covid and could spread it to others. End of it. SIMPLE..you understand. I work right now with 2 big bosses never had vaccine. Their choice. They wear masks and social distance. We were Not MANDATED.

What is the point then?
Seems every time you get corrected you claim you’re misunderstood or the point is missed
25 May, 2021 at 12:35 pm #1139829And GE lol..you hid in numbers a long time.. and you still a gutless spine who hides behind a name to watch and attack what you don’t like or read in rooms. I do give you credit when your name used here in threads.
25 May, 2021 at 12:49 pm #1139831No you have.
There are plans in place to ensure essential supplies are available. From food to petrol, drugs to water. The UK can go 1 to 2 years without any manufacturing or imports.
If you look around at renewable low maintenance energy projects that have pop up in the last few years you’ll have idea of the kind of planning involved.
The UK’s phone land line system is still in place and maintained while most only use a mobile phone.
Manufacturers are forced by law to ensure all goods last a min of 12 months.
Swapping from fossil fuels to electric transport is a common one we all see daily.
The UK could lockdown now for 18 months, put troops on the streets to enforce it and no one would stave or go without basic medical treatment.
