In loving Memory of my Daddy here on Fathers Day
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTEovBP2fb8
DADDY’S HANDS
I remember daddy’s hands folded silently in prayer
And reachin’ out to hold me, when I had a nightmare
You could read quite a story in the callous’ and lines
Years of work and worry had left their mark behind I remember daddy’s hands how they held my mama tight
And patted my back for something done right
There are things that I’d forgotten that I loved about the man
But I’ll always remember the love in daddy’s hands Daddy’s hands were soft and kind when I was cryin’
Daddy’s hands were hard as steel when I’d done wrong
Daddy’s hands weren’t always gentle but I’ve come to understand
There was always love in daddy’s hands. I remember daddy’s hands workin’ ’til they bled
Sacrifised unselfishly just to keep us all fed
If I could do things over, I’d live my life again
And never take for granted the love in daddy’s hands

Every generation
Blames the one before
And all of their frustrations
Come beating on your doorI know that Im a prisoner
To all my father held so dear
I know that Im a hostage
To all his hopes and fears
I just wish I could have told him in the living yearsCrumpled bits of paper
Filled with imperfect thought
Stilted conversations
Im afraid thats all weve gotYou say you just dont see it
He says its perfect sense
You just cant get agreement
In this present tense
We all talk a different language
Talking in defenceSay it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
Its too late when we die
To admit we dont see eye to eyeSo we open up a quarrel
Between the present and the past
We only sacrifice the future
Its the bitterness that lastsSo dont yield to the fortunes
You sometimes see as fate
It may have a new perspective
On a different day
And if you dont give up, and dont give in
You may just be o.k.Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
Its too late when we die
To admit we dont see eye to eyeI wasnt there that morning
When my father passed away
I didnt get to tell him
All the things I had to sayI think I caught his spirit
Later that same year
Im sure I heard his echo
In my babys new born tears
I just wish I could have told him in the living yearsSay it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
Its too late when we die
To admit we dont see eye to eye15 June, 2008 at 12:55 pm #348241Every father who is missing their child today
And every child missing there Dad
Wether they are passed away
Or they just cant reach you dont be sad
Celebrate them today
The love deep within your hearts, it is have not had!
Reach out from within and say
Wherever u are “i love you” to my child or dad.xx15 June, 2008 at 1:01 pm #348242Best to remember your parents for who they were… not perfect, not always a good role model, but parents none the less. Probably the closest people you will ever have in your life. Whether or not you are having a teenager ‘I hate you’ moment. Don’t know about others that have lost parents but not a day goes by when I don’t have a thought of my dad. But pol is right, celebrate their lives and not their deaths.
And if there is one song that sums it up for me (in the morbid sense and not the ‘Celebrate good times’), it’s this one…
When the day is long and the night, the night is yours alone,
When you’re sure you’ve had enough of this life, well hang on
Don’t let yourself go, ’cause everybody cries and everybody hurts sometimesSometimes everything is wrong. Now it’s time to sing along
When your day is night alone, (hold on, hold on)
If you feel like letting go, (hold on)
When you think you’ve had too much of this life, well hang on‘Cause everybody hurts. Take comfort in your friends
Everybody hurts. Don’t throw your hand. Oh, no. Don’t throw your hand
If you feel like you’re alone, no, no, no, you are not aloneIf you’re on your own in this life, the days and nights are long,
When you think you’ve had too much of this life to hang onWell, everybody hurts sometimes,
Everybody cries. And everybody hurts sometimes
And everybody hurts sometimes. So, hold on, hold on
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on
Everybody hurts. You are not alone15 June, 2008 at 1:04 pm #348243Nice one, Sword. 8)
15 June, 2008 at 1:10 pm #348244must agree with the above. may sound morbid but this one is oon behalf of my littleun for his daddy.
15 June, 2008 at 1:18 pm #348245Well, my old man was quite cool for a 1940’s child, so if I have to dedicate a song to him, it’ll be Don’t you want me – Human League, he loved that track (and album).
