Yesterday, I had what seemed like a zillion IE pages all trying to load at once. Classic virus behaviour I thought…so I ran the scan, and it said no virus found? :? :? This has happened a couple of times, gawd knows why. Oh and on my AVG is an option to download the AVG firewall. Is that worth having Martin? I,ve just got good old windows firewall. Knowing my luck I,ll click yes, make a pigs ear of it and spend hours on the phone with you know who. Who will probably tell me to set fire to it again and claim on the insurance lol. :wink: :wink: :wink:
I’ve never tried the AVG firewall – I tend to use ZoneAlarm; it’s free and I have not had any problems with it.

It’s obvious that your computer ought not to have been purchased from the car boot sale. May I suggest that you pour some highly inflammable liquid into the air vent at the back and flick a lighted match at it?
Don’t bother to back anything up, just burn the lot – including all those lovely CD’s and floppy disks.
PS: Make sure that the premium on your household contents insurance is fully paid up.

Win XP users don’t need any firewall, cause there is alread one installed in the control panel.
Why do you use IE? Mozilla firefox is more stable, secure and faster …

This may be a bit late but Windows XP Firewall is adequate but you have no control over what is been transmitted from your Computer (eg- spyware, key loggers etc) that is if any exists on the system relying on Windows XP Firewall, myself i use a multi layer system of security, Hardware Firewall and Software Firewall plus other protection , two Free firewalls you may conceder —
Zone Alarm Firewall
Comodo Firewall

I do hate to say this but, free programes are always sh!t.
Always buy software if you don’t know what your doing.
Most are under £40 and are much better and easy to use.
Leave the free ones to the so called “experts”.

Windows ‘Firewall’ also leaves ports open, so if users keep changing different protection software whilst relying on just the Windows firewall Windows will not close the ports these apps’ used, by default Windows also leaves ports open for networking purposes and these are the ones that commonly get attacked, (I suggest that anyone concerned about this to use this free gizmo to test their security

I tend to use a router which is a natural firewall as well as the ‘on board’ firewall…………but don’t forget to configure it if you use one, most forget!, you can use multiple firewalls without slowing down your PC, but you must not use multiple anti-virus software :wink:As for multi IE windows opening…………only time I had that happen was when I was using ping commands.
