The best interview I’ve seen since Jeremy Paxman interviewed Michael (something of the night) Howard over the sacking of a prison governor.
Hecht is his surname. The former conservative leader was born in Llanelli, Wales, where his Romanian Jewish shopkeeper father Bernard Hecht had moved as an asylum seeker. His mother, Hilda Kershion, was Welsh-born and of Eastern European Jewish ancestry. When Michael was six, the family name of Hecht was anglicised to become Howard.
Not alot of people now that.
