20 May, 2008 at 8:30 am #336725I havent really read up on all the facts etc of this, In my opinion and views especially with being a Mother first, If you can use science to beat disease, extreme medical conditions, physically disabitlites, Cancer, MS, Parkisons, Altziners the lot… YES we have the techknowledgly to research and cure, so why not use it. Its like IVF way way back, it was classed as wrong and imoral etc, look how many couples it has helped.. Yes it has been so called abused atimes, but that is life. I think you’ll find its people whom have belief in GOD etc whom have the Moral issue on this, as in their eyes they are playing God. we are all entitled to our own opinions in life, but if we can beat horrible conditions then why not, as if my kids were ever in a life or death situtation id do everything in my power to try and cure. Each year added to the worlds lifespan people change, more knownledge available, we adapt change more with the times, instead of wasting millions n billions of tryin to get to the effin moon, Mars and is there life out, poor the money into medical research as how many of us will ever go holiday on MARS…!! rite im goin off topic…
20 May, 2008 at 9:59 am #336726In the light of the last couple of thousand years or so of history, I find it really hard to buy into the ”sanctity of human life” argument. Indeed, as history has shown us (including modern history) life of any sort is far from sacred. …. but is in fact remarkably cheap and to be disposed of at the whim of whichever dictator is currently in power.
20 May, 2008 at 10:13 am #336727Because some people dont hold life sacred doesnt mean the rest of us shouldnt and really it proves history teaches us bugger all Theres gonna be someone somewhere is going to take this a step further or at least attempt to just to see if it can be done and if they succeed ?
Why is there a shortage of human eggs is it because we cant rip open a woman at our convenience and harvest the eggs Is the “cure” research merely an excuse, an acceptable face ?20 May, 2008 at 5:04 pm #336728Just because we can do something, doesn’t necessarily mean we should do something.
Human beings have a tendancy to meddle and then repent at leisure.
Meddling with human embryos may well in the short term bring blessed hope to those people who may die otherwise, but we do not yet know the full consequences of this decision. Whatever those consequences may be, we may not find out for many years.
Holding life sacred in my opinion simply means taking responsibility for your own actions where it has impact on others. When a decision is made by a government to meddle in this kind of way, we have to hold our breaths metaphorically to see what the impact might be over the course of time.
20 May, 2008 at 10:42 pm #336729The level of stem cell research going on in the states right now is frightening. Some of these cells have been trained to hit a tennis ball and can even mouth the words ‘ you cannot be serious i saw chalk you mu**erf**ker ‘ . Although this cannot be allowed to continue, the real issue is that i was a bit bored so thought i’d post summat
20 May, 2008 at 11:00 pm #336730we have to move with the times
20 May, 2008 at 11:03 pm #336731Its quite ironic that we can create “life” when we want yet we are deciding in parliament tonight on the right time to end “life”.
All far to emotive for me. Far too much science involved and as soon as I hear a desparate plea from either party involved in both of these I cannot disagree with them.
Choice is the thing that matters.
20 May, 2008 at 11:07 pm #336732keeping it at 24 weeks Sharon.. just seen news.
21 May, 2008 at 9:51 pm #336733now I believe you’re entering the debate of at what time is the embryo no longer a ‘potential human being’ but an ‘actual human being’. just to go back to the last point you made sharon, choice is the main matter, but the problem with choices is that they have to be made, one can’t sit on the fence forever.
We have the technology and capability to save lives, and considering that every living creature is programmed with the instinct to continue its own existence, shouldn’t we use any and all available means in order to extend our own brief spell on this mortal coil?
I hate to say it but… is this a case where the ends justify the means? -
