A short-sighted Austrian farmer mistook his fridge for his fireplace and nearly razed his house.

Adolf Maier, 87, from Angerberg in Tyrol, reportedly felt the temperature drop in his home and decided to start a fire.

However, his hearth and fridge were next to each other and Maier became confused because he had unknowingly left the fridge door open, reports Ananova.

“I put firelighters and wood in what I thought was the usual place, and suddenly there was smoke everywhere. I thought it was cold when I lit the match – now I know why,” he said.

He promised firefighters who extinguished the blaze that he will get better spectacles in the future.
