This report really surprised me, did you know that Britons have been drinking less and less every year since 2002?

Men and women of all ages are slowly curbing their excesses and drinking in moderation, according to the annual survey from the Office for National Statistics, which covers England, Scotland and Wales.

It suggests that heavy drinking is falling, abstinence is rising, and young people are leading the drive towards healthier drinking.

Well who would have guessed it? so much bad publicity around “Binge Britain” how come we never get the good news in this country?

Could the fall in drinking be correlated with rise in the Internet I wonder? Until 2000 the main way to stay in contact with friends and meet people was to go to the pub. Now everyone one does this online with facebook and sites like this etc

So how much do you drink and has it reduced over the years… must admit I have either a glass of wine or a Gin and Tonic most days… although I know I am boring I have never been drunk .. well just once when I was 16, but that’s another story… what about you?

    Teapot

A bottle of rum can last months for me. As far as the reduction is concerned, price might be an important factor with ” nights out “. . . Having said that, it is as easy to stock up from the many bargain outlets and get hammered at home, perhaps they are turning to other sources of intoxication, sources they might be less willing to admit to. Or maybe the fears of the EDL have substance ~ no pun intended ~ and Sharia law is taking hold ! Whatever the reason, everything in moderation is always a sensible idea, except in the bedroom of course . . . Ahem, now where’s my slippers lol. . . Oh i just remembered idon’t use them

I have a well-stocked drinks cupboard and wine rack yet I rarely drink – I think it goes back to my parents always having a selection of alcohol in so they had something to offer visitors, although they rarely drank at home.

Some weeks I don’t drink at all, other weeks if I go out for a meal or to friends then I might have 2 or 3 drinks in that week.
