And excatly why was capital punishment abolished?

James Hanratty was hung for a murder he didn’t commit – due to the doubts about his conviction played a significant role in the decision to abolish capital punishment.

DNA testing in 2002 found the olny DNA from the rape and murder was his, so the Appeal Court concluded he was guilty.

Timothy Evans is a far sadder miscarriage of justice. The death penalty shouldn’t be brought back but life should mean life and NO parole.

Boy, 17, detained for baby death in Lancashire hospital

Joshua Bacon was found guilty of manslaughter
A teenager who killed his seven-week-old daughter has been ordered to be detained for two-and-a-half years.

Caitlyn Smith died in January after suffering severe head injuries, police said.

She was being treated for an infection in hospital in Ormskirk, west Lancashire, when her father Joshua Bacon, 17, shook her.

Bacon, of St Helens on Merseyside, was found guilty of manslaughter last month after a trial at Preston Crown Court.

He had been charged with murder but it was reduced to manslaughter part way through his trial.

Caitlyn was found unconscious in her cot by a nurse at Ormskirk and District General Hospital, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said.

She was transferred to Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool, where she died.
