my brother is renting his house out
he has told me £750 a month, fully furnished… all i have to do is pay for the usual bills such as council tax… water.. tv licence, gas, electric … ect ect.. its a smart house in a good area.. 3 bedrooms, so i can get somone else on board and share the price.. ones a small room though
so could charge £200 and £275 maybe, means so much more independence, no sneaking my girlfriend back in through the window :)
9 October, 2006 at 9:55 pm #244011sounds great to have your own independance and space matty :D
i dunno? think would be cheaper for you to get your own morgage?? think sometimes renting accomodation is a waste of money cos some people charge the earth and usually the house is in need of great repair, least its your brother’s so you wouldn’t have that problem. :D
anyway whatever you decide “good luck” and if you can get some1 to share , least it cuts the cost for you. xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox
9 October, 2006 at 10:26 pm #244012Thats an extortionate price though….
9 October, 2006 at 10:29 pm #244013buxton is expensive, my cousin is in a 2 bedroom flat £650 a month, its not a cheap place to locate too
i’ll more likely go through the morgage option, i just don’t like the idea of getting my own place, paying for it, then my girlfriend walking into it, and automatcily getting half of it, i rather not do that
9 October, 2006 at 10:36 pm #244014Buying your own place is without any doubt the best thing u can do. Renting is just a complete waste of money. I was in the same situation as u many years ago and i didnt fancy the burden of a mortgage and all the responsibilities that go with it. I went for it in the end and that house has now quadrupled in price and will be completely paid off in 5 years.
And u cant tell me u cant buy a place for a lot less then 750 quid a month..
9 October, 2006 at 10:43 pm #244015i probably need a deposit of around 5k, then talking of a morgage of around 150k for a 2 bedroom house here, i can probably afford that right now, but it would mean not living much of a social life for a while, i’m going to look at all options, one thing is for sure, and thats i’m ready to move out, its not easy sneaking the girlfriend in and out and can be a pain even though my mum says i am welcome to bring anyone back, does’nt give a good impression thats all
9 October, 2006 at 10:48 pm #244016FFS Matty… uve only just pulled and now u wanna buy a house to shag her in. Get a grip bud……
9 October, 2006 at 10:50 pm #244017If you are in a position to get a mortgage now then do it now. dont wait. it aint gonna get any cheaper. A mate of mine got a mortgage 10 years ago and its nearly paid off (she is only 27 lol!!) but the later you leave it the harder it gets.
But on the other hand renting can be fun. Get a decent lodger in, pocket a bit of the rent, and you aint in tonnes of sh1t, sorry, I mean debt lol!!
either way, sounds like a good chapter of life coming up for you!

First of all – if you get a mortgage in YOUR name – no girlfriend is entitled to half of your house. (That’s whey when OH and I bought our house, I made sure my name was on the deeds lol)
Scondly – I would go with the mortgage option. £750 is awfully high – especially when you still have bills on top – have you worked out how much the bills would be?
Also – do you have to live there? isn’t there a town not far from there which is a little cheaper to live in?
