    OH DEAR OH DEAR….

So there we were this evening, watching Harrison Ford in Air force One (and very thrilling it was too) when senior management (Mrs PB) suddenly let out a piercing scream and leapt onto the sofa.

“Il topo … il topo …. there !!!!! do something”

It took me a nanosecond to realise that “Il topo” is Italian for “the mouse”….. and there the little blighter was – scuttling across the sitting room floor.

My big mistake was to dissolve in laughter instead of joining in with the general panic and bedlam.

OK, so I shoo’ed the mouse out of the patio door into the garden and made lots of soothing noises towards senior management …. but now I’m in deep trouble for taking the piss.

Er…. anybody got any advice on how to a) dig myself out of this mess and b) prevent “Mousey” from making another guest appearance???

Oh and please don’t suggest a cat – I detest bloody cats.

    I watched that too!

Im afraid it sounds like you have a family of them.

My friend at work had a problem that started with one or two that she managed to catch and them release into a field, but before she knew it she was over run with them. She is a huge animal lover and would never have dreamt of having to kill them to get rid of them, but she had to succumb in the end.

I think she contacted environmental health who leant her lots of traps, and her problem was mostly in the airing cupboard and kitchen so she placed the traps around those areas and others and within about 4 days all had been dealth with.

Not nice, but they do quickly become an infestation if not dealt with so you will probably have to consider something along those lines (and promise senior management that YOU will be the one to dispose of what gets caught in the traps, cos if she dont like the live il topo she aint gonna like dead crushed il topo).

I’ve been re-thinking my approach to this mouse thing.

The TV programmes are entering their summer schedules – which means that they are all unremittingly boring. So what to do for home entertainment?

After the scenes of mass hysteria a couple of evenings ago, when ”Gwenny the mouse” made her guest appearance in the sitting room, it has become apparent that this is a far better form of entertainment that that offered by the TV.

So are there any suggestions as to how I can encourage ”Gwenny” to return here? Particularly, how can I get her to scamper into the sitting room of an evening?

I can assure you that the sight of ‘senior management’ leaping onto a chair and screaming hysterically is worth every bit of the retribution that would come my way later on.

What about getting an ultrasonic pest controller. I have two of them and havent had any prob ( and i live in the country). Just plug them in and apparently they give off some high pitch that the wee beggars cant stand it they leave …….. best bit is it keeps the bliddy insects at bay cos i hate spiders and creepy crawlies even more than mice
    .
Thats as long as your daughter doesnt have any hamsters or gerbils etc but its fine for cats and dogs

    Try EBAY

No hamsters or gerbils etc ….. only a collection of teddy bears and assorted other cuddly toys none of which would succumb to an ultrasonic repellant (I think).

BUT …. I’ve decided that I want to encourage the mouse to visit us in the evenings (see above) so as to provide some entertainment in the form of hysterical screaming etc.

Your suggestion would have the opposite effect and then I’m stuck with boring old football on the TV etc etc.

Well in fact there is. We were having a Sunday scoff at lunchtime on the back lawn.; you know the sort of thing, sandwiches, quiche, sausage rolls etc …. when little Gwenny chose to make an appearance, over near the dustbins. Clearly she was lonely and wanted to join in.

Now I know I should have said nothing – absolutely nothing at all – but I simply couldn’t resist.

“Here mousey mousey … do you fancy a bit of my cheese & tomato sandwich???” said I.

Senior management immediately went into major wobble mode and said something pretty biological in Italian … sprang to her feet and started screaming.

The next door neighbours were having a BBQ and whilst they were quite clearly startled …. they attempted to look as if nothing was the matter so as to avoid causing any embarassment.

“Sorry” I said, “but we have a very friendly field mouse over here and Mrs PB is NOT its greatest fan”.

“No problem” he said “send it over here and I’ll give it a beer”.

Senior management was most definitely NOT amused.

well PB if u now want to keep Gwenny!! its easy just regularly feed it lol when i was a kid me and my next door neighbour friend used to feed one in his bedroom it got that tame it would take the food from ours fingers in the end, though we did get in alot of trouble when found out by his dad!! but they get brave very quickly, so you can maybe train it to come in on cue eventually lol.
