You could always do it the other way round knowing that every step took you further away from (rather than towards) Scotland!!!
That might make it a bit more interesting???
28 April, 2007 at 5:24 pm #262721How about a sponsored, “Visit Every Train Station in the UK?”
That’ll take some doing and there’s plenty of boozers to visit whilst ya doing it!28 April, 2007 at 8:01 pm #262722There’s supposed to be a competition to see how many Tube (i.e. London Underground) stations you can visit in one operating day. The trains start at around 0500hrs or so and the last Tube is at around 0100hrs the following day.
Thing is that it is really cheap to do (as you only need a Zone 1 – 4 day ticket) but it takes one helluva lot of planning, and of course 18 hours or so.
You could raise sponsorship at the rate of £??? per station visited. In fact it might be quite interesting to write a brief programme to see if it is possible to visit ALL of the stations on the system.
29 April, 2007 at 10:32 am #262723Would I have to get off at every station, or would just passing through count?
29 April, 2007 at 2:22 pm #262724No you stay on the relevant train. The idea is to ”visit” (i.e. pass through) as many stations as possible. You only get off when you wish to change trains and take another route.
This isn’t as easy as it seems however. For example if you travel the length of the Victoria Line from say Brixton in the South to Walthamstow Central in the North you go through (I think) eight interchanges. If you go right round the Circle Line you go through some fourteen interchanges.
The problem is, where do you change from one line to another so as to maximise the number of stations visited, without covering the same ground more than once if possible – and thus wasting time.
Of course you need to hurry between Tube lines. The interchange at Oxford Circus for example is a notoriously slow one, so a plan might be to avoid changing at this station and change at one that is really quick, like Earl’s Court or Hammersmith, where the different Tune lines essentially use the same track and adjacent platforms.
As I said before, it seems an easy challenge at first glance, but when you think it through a bit, it is actually pretty difficult to do.

I think I am pretty much recovered – although they say it takes the body a month to recover after a marathon.
Apparently I have burned around 3,000 calories, lost six pounds, taken 37,000 steps and subjected my feet to the equivalent weight of 20 million pounds.
Shocking, eh?!?
Thank you very much for the donation :)
You are welcome, it is a worthy cause :)
Now you say… 3000 calories… I’ll do it!
