Bear with me…
The other night I received an email which is unusual because I never receive emails (except from JC when I’ve forgotton to tick the *stop watching this topic* box)
I can also honestly say I’ve never sent an email from this m s n addy.
I opened it because it was from one of the few people I have on my m s n contacts.
It was a reply to an email I had apparently sent
there were 2 other names at top of e mail I had *sent* it to
these three people are the only ones Ive ever spoke to on my m s n with my new password.
No one in my house knows my password in fact no one on this planet does
Has this happened to anyone else ?
and if anyone on my contacts list receives and email from me, delete it
I dont send emails
I found it a little un nerving. :?
Should I change my password

24 July, 2008 at 4:22 pm #357037Sounds like worm spoofing.
24 July, 2008 at 4:41 pm #357038If it is, maybe this will help:
Simply put, spoofing as it relates to worm dissemination, works like this:
Someone who has your email address stored somewhere on her or his computer, becomes infected by a worm that uses spoofing.
The worm searches for email addresses on the infected computer and sends itself to them.
The worm inserts one of the email addresses it finds in the “From:” field of the virus emails it sends. In other words, it may use your address in the “From:” field, which tricks unwary recipients into thinking that the virus came from your computer.
Thus, even though you may practice safe computing and have a worm free machine, you may be unfairly accused of spreading the infection. Meanwhile, the actual sender may remain unaware that his or her machine is infected.
24 July, 2008 at 10:39 pm #357039pete it was one that referred to a competition for holiday abroad
You had to click on a link
as I’m so computer illiterate I don’t know how to insert links so it deffo wasn’t from meThe three recipients are people who I have spoken to in m s n recently
24 July, 2008 at 10:40 pm #357040There is some stuff that will read you address book maybe you just clicked wrong button ?

To be as pc thick as me takes intelligence24 July, 2008 at 10:44 pm #357042sounds like a normal run-of-the-mill spam message to me. Ive no idea how these companies get hold of our addys but they do.
why not try re-posting this in techical help down there a bit / / and see what answers that generates…. despite what you may think DOa and PB are quite helpful there. (as are others too). x
