Help! Firefox and Java upgrades and can’t get onto forums!

Like the title says (said in bestest Penelope Pitstop voice…) hey-elp!

Tonight I was prompted to do a Firefox upgrade, which I did. Tried to sign into chatrooms, passed the “I absolve anyone of any responsibility and confirm I’m over 18 and not of sound mind” page, got onto the next page and…..no Java symbol and no box to enter my username!

Sooooo, next logical step, look at Java, yes I’m on an ancient version so I update Java….still no Java symbol and no box to enter my username.

Ah-ha, maybe I need to restart my pc, so I do….still no Java symbol and no box to enter my username

What now? How do I get into chat? Or am I exiled, cast into the wilderness, doomed to wander the interweb looking for a nice warm chatroom?

Help, please, or I’ll be doomed to type even more mindless drivel in here!!!

It depends how it was installed, if it kept poppingup with seperate windows then Java might have only installed onto InternetExplorer.

To get it in Firefox- click on TOOLS> ADD ONS. Then (on the “Get Add Ons” tab) type in JAVA CONSOLE.
You can then install it to Firefox from there.

Oh dear you too jen. Java 6 by chance?? Explorer unable to refresh fault on website message coming up.??

Took me a week to sort it but managed in the end all by myself surprisingly. I too was using java that Noah chucked off the ark :lol: :wink:
I don’t run firefox but …….

In the end I totally removed java shut the lot down modem included & left it for few hours. Rebooted it where I was offered Microsoft updates. Googled safe installation of java using XP & idiot guide appeared as if by magic. :lol:

Had to mess about in tools & add ons but basically adjusted a few settings as suggested by microsoft & low & behold it worked. :lol:

Dunno if it will help any but you not alone. :wink:

Hmmmm….I haven’t done anything but it seems to have fixed itself :?

I obviously just wasn’t meant to go into the chatrooms last night! :lol:

right i was prompted too put in java update i updated too java 6 -18 ok well i treid too get into jc i got passed the i agree too site rules the java ball came up my grey box came up with name i clicked connect and nothin my page completely froze i tried this many times but still too no avail i tried different forums nothing dunno whats going on if anyone can give me any advice how too fix it if i cant work it out fraid ill have too knock justchat on there head so if anyone can help i would be grateful.

Hi Rob,

That happened to me the other day, tried lots of things then in a final attempt I uninstalled Java then reinstalled it…don’t ask me why but it did the trick.

Worth a try….

if you are still having this prob……..

I have it too and I have found the only way to get in jc at the mo is to make sure I have only one window open/one appication and wait a few mins longer than I used to……..If theres another application open while I’m trying to get in jc I cant get in ……………total freeze up ………task manager required.
