Blimey, first I agreed with Emma (not here tho)
To suggest we continue to pay penance for sins committed 200 years ago is no more ridiculous that suggesting Germany should still be saying sorry for the tens of millions who died in WW2 in the year 2145Learn from the past, dont repeat the mistakes of the past, acknowledge the acts of the past as wrong but DON’T apologise for something which occurred 200 years ago- it wasn’t your fault
You are agreeing with me…”The month-long Lifeline Expedition from Hull to London has been organised to apologise for the slavery“.
Aha, perhaps I should have been a little more specific in what I disagreed with- the driving force behind this campaign to say sorry, to my mind anyway, is not about “the marxists who run our country” and the poor down trodden english etc.
Poor misguided folk, keen on religion, who fancy a bit of penance and may indeed feel guilty (the sort who feel sinful for eating a cadbury’s cream egg cos they have to stick their tongue in) are the ones who are leading this but I believe it is counter productive and creates disharmony.

So what does, “The month-long Lifeline Expedition from Hull to London has been organised to apologise for the slavery”, mean? Are you saying the people who say this, dont want the English to appologise?
9 March, 2007 at 3:38 am #263206Slayer has quite clearly explained what he means so what are you asking for?
Why don’t YOU know what it means? You posted it and told everyone what it was all about and now you are asking what does this mean!
9 March, 2007 at 11:32 am #263207slayer has indeed explained something, but i dont understand it, thats why im asking him, which seems to be a criminal offence these days.
Is slayer agreeing with the organisers that the English should appologise for slavery in 2007? A simple yes or no will do.
9 March, 2007 at 1:31 pm #263208No.
Slayer says: “but DON’T apologise for something which occurred 200 years ago”
9 March, 2007 at 6:30 pm #263209I take it your not on about this type of slavery then

Do not repeat the sins of the fathers onto their sons for they shall reap vengeance
Emma- I disagreed with your view of what was behind this march NOT with the view that we should not be apologising. We SHOULD be discussing it, we SHOULD be remembering it, we SHOULD be recognsing slavery as an evil act of human subjugation, but we SHOULD NOT be apologising for something which occurred almost 200 years ago.

12 March, 2007 at 9:17 am #263213I just hope they don’t start chucking spears around when I refuse to apologise.
I’m sure the b*stards spat in my food. Still ate it, mind. I just pretended it was watery apple sauce.
