Top Gear star Richard Hammond has been involved in road crash while driving his exclusive supercar, it has been reported.
The BBC presenter was apparently involved on a four-car incident at the Over Roundabout on the A40 near Gloucester.
The star, who escaped death in 2006 when his jet car crashed at 288mph, was believed to be in his £110,000 Morgan Aeromax at the time of the latest smash.
The accident on Saturday lunchtime is said to have involved a BMW 3 Series, a Volvo V40, and a Nissan Almera, as well as the Morgan.
Gloucestershire police said they could not confirm or deny that Hammond, known as The Hamster, was involved.
But a spokesman said there was a “damage only” accident involving four cars at the roundabout requiring no action from officers.
The presenter is believed to have been on his way home from a flying lesson nearby when the accident occurred.
An eyewitness told the Mail on Sunday: “Richard was at the back of the line and he received no damage to his rear end but the front was in a pretty bad way.
“Everyone got out and exchanged details and there was some good-humoured banter exchanged by the drivers after they realised it was him.”
The BBC said the presenter had been involved in a minor collision and was unharmed.
Now Now Hammond, I do believe that someone’s trying to tell you something, eg, The Grim Reaper is out to get you..
I’m so glad he received no damage to his rear end, poor sod, not only was he involved in a crash, but an attempted Buggery took place too..
12 August, 2009 at 9:52 am #403811At last a thread worth posting on
I’ll ask the questuion on everyones lips – What amount of damage was inflicted on his big end?
12 August, 2009 at 3:07 pm #403812I’m just wondering how much he pays for car Insurance..
12 August, 2009 at 3:41 pm #403813He had a bump at a roundabout, no-one was hurt, where does it say he was driving recklessly? If it was someone else, the only mention it would get in the media would be “there are delays at the roundabout at xxxxx due to a minor accident” on the local radio station traffic news.
As for driving recklessly for his television career, isn’t that what everyone watches programmes like Top Gear for? They’re still supposed to have all the safety angles covered though, and he’s probably no more at risk on that than he was when he was a jockey. We empathise with anyone else who gets injured in the line of work even if the job is dangerous (Formula 1 drivers, boxers, and some of the more mundane yet still dangerous jobs) and I don’t see why he should be viewed any differently.
12 August, 2009 at 4:11 pm #403814Me neither Jen
You could say that being a Fireman, Ambulance worker, Police Officer all dangerous jobs, in there way. Maybe Will thinks we shouldnt feel any sympathy for them either if theyre injured in the line of doing their jobs.
12 August, 2009 at 7:02 pm #403815He should get The Stig to chauffeur him about..
12 August, 2009 at 8:24 pm #403816I agree Tinkerbell.
The Emergency Services are all trained to high standards to drive on our roads, not only to keep themselves safe, but us too.
I don’t know what type of on road training the Top Gear team have had, but they might benefit from some training from the police perhaps?
I don’t know anyone who teaches their drivers to a higher standard to drive on our roads other than the police. Associations like the IAM and RoSPA do good jobs, but they can’t come close to the standard the police do.

I dont think its the case that Hammond wanted to have it splattered all over the news, lets put it into perspective, it was an accident at a roundabout, where some1 slowed or stopped and the peeps behind went into each other, he was on the end of that line of peeps.
i am sure he would rather it not fodder for the masses.
I do have quite a dangerous job and have been in the local newspaper where i live, i would rather not have been in the newspaper either
however some1 somewhere thought that it should be sojust something to think about…….
20 August, 2009 at 9:59 pm #403818I believe Richard Hammond was driving a Morgan Aeromax, a car so ugly that it probably looked no worse after being involved in the accident than it did beforehand!
