The Taxpayers’ Alliance has calculated that every household in the UK is paying as much as £800 a year more in environmental taxes than is necessary.
See here. So, it’s not really about saving the planet.
A guy from Sutton phoned in to LBC to say how the local council opened a special site for garden waste, the queues on saturday were so huge that people were turning away.
Then they said people with trees outside their house get free collection – so the rich people in the groves get subsidised!

Saving energy and moving to renewable energy are crucial as the supply of finite resources begins to dwindle, as it will.
28 August, 2008 at 1:07 pm #367098Does anyone know how to get rid of 258 car tyres? I’ve tried burning them in my back garden but its taking me ages and the woman next door is moaning about her washing stinks of burning rubber?
I did chuck some in the river near me but a swan got his body stuck in one while trying to remove a trainer from his beak and as a result has blocked the flow of the river causing major flooding in east Anglia and Suffolk.
I did leave some in the recycling bin but they refused to take them because they were made from Indian rubber and I have since been informed that the work persons can not handle them until they have been on an EU diversity rubber course. I have also been informed that I must stack said Indian rubber tyres facing towards Mecca or I will be fined £1000 and put on the CDR (Culture and Diversity Restriction) register.
You will be pleased to know that the Swan has made a full recovery and is being cared for by a local polish family “We are very pleasing of this bird”,” with has never tasted one so succulent”28 August, 2008 at 2:13 pm #367099Winnie Mandela would have found a use
