Right now we seem to be going stagflation thanks to covid and Brexit. The government been pushing healthy living for years reducing sugar and salt in our food. Organic food…five a day and other crap too.
But if food prices continue to increase people will soon stop following that advice. Good intentions don’t put food in children’s belly’s.
Many years ago… well about 5 cos I’m only 29 & 3/97
I fitted out a lot of hotels and restaurants kitchens…. being struck by the numbers of chillers and freezer’s. Turns out they cooked from frozen most of the time. Few things were brought in fresh daily. And this was all done to keep costs down.
And this got me thinking…. if a 5 star hotel cooks from frozen why cant I?
The price of meat yoyo’s over the year and most of the cost is butchering labour. You can save a ton of cash if you bulk buy.
I kept two freezers at home until I sold up in Hove and downsized. The new place had a smaller kitchen and there was no room for two. Someone close to me argued it wasn’t necessary and one would do.
A year or two on I’ve just removed a kitchen unit and ordered a second freezer. My current freezer is full of junk like ice cream and cakes. My food bill increased buying fresh healthy food daily.
With food prices going up…. I’m returning to my old ways. Keeping vegetable’s, fruit & bread in the freezers. I’d like to say I’m trying to reduce my food waste but that’s not true. Doing £100 in Tesco’s a week and not really having much to show for it is.
I’m returning to my old ways and living out of my freezer’s. It mite save me a tenner or two a week but its more to spend on me
