That is not true, I know many people who work in this field, the police have a duty to report underage sex, its not up to them who gets prosecuted, it comes down to the CPS who decides, unfortunately many working there are looking at numbers not people and a guilty is still a guilty no matter how absurd, you can only hope they get a judge with some common sense.
We can all say ” I know someone who did this or I remember when …” its doesn’t make that instance the ‘way of things’. Yes age gap marriages can work and good on them, they are the exception to the rule tho. Yes each case should be handled individually, EVERYONE agrees on that and has already said it, its pretty impossible to do tho in todays current climate with cuts to services all the time.
You can’t make an argument out of a debate when people are saying basically the same thing just in a different way.
And for someone who constantly asks people to answer certain points you can’t say ” you’ll just not have to get it ” when challenged, as the remark made no point or sense. I’m far from stupid, so if I ask you to explain your point again, insinuating I must be stupid is just rude.

The law is obviously an ass when it brands 16 year old boys as sex offenders and places them on the sex offenders registrar for having consensual sex with their 15 year old girlfriends or receiving a mucky picture on their mobile phone, potentially ruining in the process, that 16 year old boys adult life.
Why should the legal age for consent be 18, or even 21? When in Europe it is between 14 and 16 and there are far less (reported) cases of peadophilia and underage pregnancy, STIs etc.
Clearly something is broken within British society, blaming parents and/or 16 year old consent won’t fix it.

It’s not just about parenting though is it. Or are you suggesting high rates of ‘promiscuity’ and underage pregnancies compared to the rest of Europe is merely because of shit parenting?
Noo. I don’t say that parenting is just what it’s about.
I do say that parenting is what a lot of this is about. How do we protect grown children is what moves much of this debate, specifically whether older people are disgusting and should keep away form younger. It seems to be the case that parenting is important because it’s the parents who make their mind up about who is disgusting for their protected cherub or not, not the cherub making his/her mind up for him/herself. The age at whihc they can make their own mind up is also a topic for discussion, and this is also being decided by older people, often with a prejudice on what is disgusting and what isn’t..
But parenting is certainly NOT what it’s all about.
You seem to be widening the discussion to more than the question of whether older people should be allowed to date younger people, to the whole question of the breakdown of relationships within society which leads to the loneliness and isolation of loveless sex (promiscuity being a spectacular example) and the rise of underage pregnancies. That goes far beyond parenting, and becomes even more speculative (though very interesting).
I don’t have any stats though, on how bad this is in the UK compared with the USA, for example, or in Western Europe.
What do you think is the cause or causes of the breakdown in relationships?

No, I was going to lead onto the sexualization of children in the media and online and the lack of “relationship” education in schools etc etc. I’ll do it tomorrow when I have rested my weary body.

Sorry, Mooosey. I try not to address you directly because our relationship seems to have more or less broken down. I address your points where needed, but I’m not making any snide comments about you or replying to the disparaging remarks about me, unless it becomes impossible.. Seems best to address propositions rather than people, particularly when we feel the people are impossible for whatever reason.
It is interesting that most posting about this tend to agree, I think some may have just taken mizzy’s original post about ‘ old men’ a bit personally, made worse by later comments by the OP I admit, when it wasn’t aimed at ALL old people at all or how they are disgusting !! Fgs, we will all get old, my comments were made about older men grooming young girls online, yes we know others lie and manipulate online, men and women, but that wasn’t what the post was about. Making it into an argument about how we treat older people is ridiculous. It happens, its in the news constantly, they have teams of officers pretending to be young girls trying to ‘get’ these men constantly. You may not like it, I certainly hope men in general don’t feel ashamed because they are male, they shouldn’t, women can be and are just as manipulative and evil, but you can’t deny its a problem and that is / was the debate, for me anyway.

Just as an afterthought guys I just was re-reading up on the different ages of consent etc in different countries, I’d forgotten how convoluted it all was, you cant just say ‘ well in such and such country its this ” it comes down to so many different aspects, the sex of the people, the age gap, the religious beliefs, I think Linda touched on, its a mine field really…. and probably will remain one, sigh…. Thinking of evil men, who would have ever thought Bill Cosby would be included now found on 3 quilty charges, 30 year sentence in which he will die in prison.
I as most admit, his show on family as Dr. Huxabell was an icon show set with much family value… his life donations of work and funds, helping his own get education, awards received for loyalty and dedication to causes outstanding.
What a true shame his money and power so to speak, made him so low to drug his victims when he needed extra recreational pleasures…..so so sad…
History of his life and dedicated hard works, now being removed. What good he did will now have a black mark on his name forever. What about his children,who now suffer from his own stupidity….so very very sad….
For the victims however, a day of celebration. Proof finally shared and accepted. Makes no difference who we are, how good we are, what we do in life, when you screw up you eventually get caught. He did..
