I don’t think age is just a number at all, but that’s just my opnion.
You didn’t answer about the tariff of punishments and the appropriate age of consent, sairs.
Of course, age isn’t a number, but as I have just pointed out, it all depends. Happily or not, I am strongly agreeing with mooosey on all this, witht he exceptions I noted in my previous post a few minutes ago.

My son wouldn’t bring an old lady home in the first place and if he did I would make sure I did all I could to split them up.

As for the legal age of consent – what on earth happends to these young people for them to even find people old enough to be their own parent attractive?
I get young men try to ‘chat to me online’ all the time. I tell them to go and talk to their mums and sort their silly selves out.
The age of consent should be 18 for both boys and girls and scep if you find 16 year old girls attractive then you disgust me.
We need to bring back hanging just for peadophiles.
No one is ’emotionally mature’ under the age of 18 they just have the physical tools to have sex with.
If when I was 16 id brought a man home in his 30s my father would most probably warned him off with a baseball bat.

Well this is difficult conversation regarding age differences…
My father 10 years older than my mother. First marriage for him. Married 62 years. My brother’s wife is 8 years older married 40 years next February.
Me well I was one of those too whose first was a man 15 years plus. I was 21. Honestly, boys are boys, were immature at my time. I think I liked mannerisms, intelligence. Actually respect which came from relationship more so..
I too think that age should not make a difference in true relationships. However, discussing 16 years old gender,male or female we discussing more young adulthood not really developed or matured. On the other hand generation before us did marry at 16 with much more that of older man, younger woman.
Today’s youth pardon me are not matured as in the past. Goals shakey not defined, no clues what achievements want. Some lazy, not all. Forget respect for some as well.. Not all…how many can conquer, quest to find to fill in notches, share scores rather than real love if know what it means at all. I guess can put in female gender as well..unsure as to what goals are. All I ever hear about is Doctors, lawyers, money, money, money..

I use to let age bother me more woman much older than men. Men not bother me. But in Today’s age seems to be a number and true happiness to the individuals…Who wish to commit and society does not disrupt due to conformity or not.
Going back to evil men and woman, I don’t think age makes a difference. This honestly I never see or presented, funny. Whom has control, is more powerful, does. And of course gender.

I hope the violence – hanging, stabbing people for age reasons – is just emotional frustration, because if it were written into law then the UK would be a barbaric country to live in. The next thing we’ll have brought back is ducking.
Why choose 18 as the age of consent? Why not 20 or 16? It’s just not true that all people are mature at a certain age. It varies enormously. Some people in their 40s are incredibly immature, and it’s the over-protectiveness of people who try to exert control over who their (grown) children are going out with which either leads to a screwed-up youngster who either goes out with someone their parent forbids or just become terribly sheltered and timid. The power exerted over youngsters by their parents is truly scary.

But if I did find them attractive, then there is no law against me having a relationship with one if there is mutual consent. And I don’t think there should be one either. There would be strong social pressure to be borne on the girl, and there should be, but if she insists, then that’s her decision.
I did start a thread saying that I find women only start to become interesting in their 30s, to be condemned by mister q if I remember rightly. It’s just my personal prejudice. I don#t object to people who find women attractive who are much younger. I just don’t. They may have attractive bodies, but relations are about more than nice bodies.
In the end, it all depends, as both mooosey and linda in their different way seem to be saying.. You can’t make iron rules about people, and especially not about other people. make iron rules for your (grown) children and you’re asking for bit problems for them.

I agree with your post, Linda, but you can’t make an iron rule – one glove doesn’t fit all hands.
Do you think the age of consent should be 30?
In New York City, I believe, adultery is illegal and can be punished by a prison sentence.

That’s total bollox. My partner is 15yrs older than me and we been together over 20yrs. What next Mizzy no mixed race relationships?

Some country’s age of consent is 13 yes, some country’s still allow FGM, both are disgusting in my mind. Plenty of 13 year olds are not even fully developed at that age. I think young girls mature far quicker than boys, emotionally and socially, I think that’s pretty well known tbh, always exceptions of course. 18 would probably be about right, but no way to enforce it, kids think they know it all at 16, also plenty of 18 year olds easily pass for 24 or 25, with make up etc and confidence, jail bait for some poor guy who gets lied to as well. Past 30 I don’t think an age gap is that significant, its when you see a girl of 18 and an aged man of 60 plus you wonder….. And yes women have been attracted to older men , always, but that’s normally to do with money, power and social standing rather than attractiveness or a beautiful mind and I seriously doubt I could be convinced otherwise.

I really don’t know what you mean apart from anyone can be fooled which is obvious. My point was referring to Mizzy’s post about Older men perving on Young girls. Not about consent at that point.
