Following in Jessops footsteps (after the administrators have been called in) stating that gift cards will not be accepted payments for goods bought in their stores, I wonder how many people will be interested in giving giftcards next christmas?

Does anyone know what credit cards will match Barclaycard’s claw back service? Some debit cards offer the same facility. at least then if you bought the gift card via your plastic you should be able to claim the money back. If you paid cash for a giftcard it’s gone.

Never been a fan of gift cards either as a present or as a recipient. Great for the retailer; very little benefit for the consumer I think. They lock you into a particular retailer, are usually time-limited and sometimes have other constraints.

I’ve never been able to find any valid reason why gift cards can’t be honoured by companies in the hock, to be honest.

I bought my son in law a Jessops gift card for Christmas … luckily he spent it before the collapse. I agree though, I wont trust enough to buy gift cards from any company next year…just too risky.

I have often bought gift cards for older children in the family for Birthdays and Christmas. Must admit I prefer to buy the ones that cover most shops in Shopping Centres. That is, Bluewater Gift Cards can be used in absolutely loads of shops in the centre therefore giving the receipient a good choice. I just think sometimes it’s better than giving money. Seems a bit more effort has been put into it, as nowadays it’s difficult to know what to get older kids, who are adults but will always be kids to us oldies.
