A couple in Toronto are hiding the gender of their four-month-old, an adorable chubby-cheeked child whom they’ve named Storm.
“If you really want to get to know someone, you don’t ask what’s between their legs,” say the parents
So even the grandparents have no idea whether Storm is their grandson or granddaughter. Only the baby’s siblings, the midwives who helped in the delivery and a close family friend reportedly know, and they are all sworn to secrecy.
Hmmmm in my opinion if you keep the sex of a child secret, you are making it the most important thing about that child, not the least. There is a poll going on in Canada on whether the child is male or female …. how terrible for this child… most so far are saying its a boy… Crazy parents I say!

The reasons the parents give to me seem ridiculous. In this day and age babies, boy or girl are treated the same. They play with the same toys etc, where as years ago you would never see a boy with a toy pram for instance. When the child is older and gender does matter, it will be old enough to take the direction it so wishes. Which brings me to ………will the child be called IT? How awful.
How long do they intend to keep the gender secret? What public toilets will it use?
As for the siblings knowing the sex. If they are young siblings or infact even Junior age, what an awful secret for them to keep. Very unfair in my eyes. If one of the siblings lets slip, then what?
Writing all this down to me, just shows how ridiculous it all is. I reckon it’s a publicity stunt. Unless the child has been born with male and female genetalia, in that case there was no need to go public in the first place.

It could be just that. It’s a rare occurance and often when it does occur the parents make the decision as to which sex the child should be at a very early age; this isn’t the right thing to do as again it more often than not turns out to be the wrong choice. It is reported that children born this way need to develop for some years until the dominant gene becomes apparant and psychologically the child discovers their true gender.
That said, it is a tough decision to make ( even though it appears quite insane as no definite reason has been given ) and a hard secret for a child to keep as it grows up.
29 May, 2011 at 11:33 am #469390I could understand if that were the reason sublime….. hello BTW and welcome., but apparently this couple have two other children, both boys whom they allow to dress as they like and are almost exclusively assumed to be girls. I wonder how these children refer to their parents? are they allowed to call them mum and dad or is that also gender stereotyping?
I think these parents although possibly well meaning are just creating massive psychological problems for their children in the future. Children need guidance and boundaries. It will be interesting to see how this story progresses, sad for the child though.. who knows, maybe I will be proved wrong?
29 May, 2011 at 12:50 pm #469391JEEZE-O !! sounds like a case of severe post natal Depression. They really wanted a Girl and got given another boy, so thought up this scheme. ?
Reminds me of Years ago when i had to do Work with Womens Aid. One of the hippy chicks gave birth to twins , boy/girl. She always had the wee girl along with her, when i asked why she did not bring the little boy too, her reply was along the lines of,, oh boys have better lives so im making sure this girl has everything !! and when she did speak of the wee boy, which was a rare occurence, it was always to moan.
I am all for equal ops, but this is conditioning of the freakiest nature.Poor wee storm,,oh sorry, IS using the word wee “sizeist”. :?
