    poli,
marriage to me is a personal vow, nothing to do with teh religio0us rites.

But to Christian gays, it is to do with those rites. Those rites are important to them as Christians.

Unfriendly vicars won’t need to marry gays.

But some vicars are wanting to marry gay and lesbian couples, and aren’t allowed to.

The reason is to do with politics. See the Guardian article on Rowan Williams I put into my post. Williams belongs to the Affirming Faith people, a Catholic group which takes a liberal attiude to gays, lesbians and women. African reactionaries were drafted in by the Forward in Faith people, a conservative Catholic group who are fiercely opposed to women priests and gays, and they’ve made it clear that they’ll break with the Church if the Church has anything to do with gays. For Williams as Archbishop, the unity of the Anglican Church is all-important, and he gave in.

The Bible, the New Testament, is very strongly against gays – see Paul, But not all Christians accept Paul, and Jesus himself said nothing about the topic; nothing recorded anyway.

The point is that if vicars don’t want to marry gays, they have every right not to. But if some vicars do, then they and the gay couples have every right to carry it through. It means something important to them. Not to you, not to me, but to them.

if it isn’t to do with the religious rites, but a personal vow, then surely that can be done in a civil ceremony, as is now their right ? They can make a personal vow and legalise things so they have the same rights as a married couple.

Well i think i’ll summarise my views on this particular subject, as i am fed up with going in circles and repeating myself…

Gay marriages will they happen… yes i reckon so
Does it worry me ? not in the slightest..
Do i think we should have such massive reforms for no real greater good than very few devout religious people who have a massively deep need to do this ? no…
If those people are that devout and the church says no to homosexuality, i guess they are not so totally devout after all… which negates the deep need.
But i love them all, gay men are always good looking gits such a waste

Couldn’t the same be said of women priests? Massive reforms for…very few devout religious people who have a massively deep need…

Ummmm…are you saying that if the church says no to homesexuality, then christian homosexuals can’t be totally devout otherwise they wouldn’t be homosexual? Or have I read that wrongly? (Please tell me I’m reading it wrong)
But i love them all, gay men are always good looking gits such a waste
I have a gay friend who takes the view that good looking straight men are a waste

Some very good points raised here.
It would seem that there’s a very definte possibility of the Anglican Communion introducing some manner of gay marriage into their faith. I believe this is one of the reasons why some Church Of England ministers and members have converted to Catholicism in recent times, as they see no such change on Rome’s horizon.

It’s a deeply sensitive and at times tragic subject.
