Women, but also men, are subject to all sorts of emotional control from malicious partners. This can take the form of emotional blackmail, bullying, threats of violence, or even actual violence.
Gaslighting is a virulent form of being subject to a control freak. It can happen in the workplace, or in personal relationships; some would say that it can even happen in chatrooms, though I’m sure not in jc.
You’re ‘gaslighted’ when someone tries to persuade you that you have no grasp on reality, that you have no worth as a human being at all although you are living under the illusion that you may have. It’s the control-freak who has the real grasp of reality, and every tactic in the book is used to persuade you to accept the way the control-freak sees the world.
It has a horrific impact on you – especially on your sense of self-worth.
So what are the ways in which you can tell you’re being gaslighted?

yeah, that’s gaslighting all right, tinks.
The response are all-important. A nasty look just encourages the gaslighter.
maybe say “I’m looking over there because you’re over here”.
Best of all is to get the hell out.
In the film A Portrait of a Lady, Nicole Kidman is well and truly gaslighted by john Malcovich. One of the most terrifying scenes is where he follows her around the room, step-for-step, then deftly blocks her and pushes her against the wall. His forehead touches hers, and he presses hard against it. Not a word is said. Scary.

You’re just paranoid; there isn’t any people like that in this wonderful country of ours. I suggest that you take your tinfoil hat off, and learn to trust the honest and caring people of the United Kingdom.
You can’t seriously be implying that there are people as evil as that in the developed world? It is all fictional – anyone who says otherwise – is severely delusional.
