Foxes do not need controlling though they dont need gassing or shooting, if fox hunting is strictly “pest” control why did the Isle of Wight import foxes to hunt ? A sheep is more than a match for a fox, it’s killing for killings sake, it does nothing to keep the numbers down
22 February, 2010 at 10:18 pm #432316A 2009 Ipsos-Mori poll showed that three out of every four people in Britain (75%) thought that fox hunting should remain illegal and 72% of those in rural areas do not want fox hunting legalised.

And the reason for pro hunters constructing earths to encourage foxes to breed and feeding fox cubs ?
Copper the fox made national headlines. After being chased, and caught, by the Chiddingford, Leconfield and Cowdray Hunt hounds, he managed to bolt down a rabbit hole. Luckily, Hunt Saboteurs were close by and physically blocked the hounds from Copper, using a policeman’s helmet.
Copper had suffered bite wounds to his rear flanks and was losing blood from his penis due to kidney damage caused during the stress and exhaustion of the long run from the hounds. The vet was able to offer scientific evidence that hunted foxes undergo pathological stress, a level of suffering so intense that they can die even if they succeed in escaping the jaws of the hounds. He was quoted as saying ‘I have never seen such trauma in a dog, even a badly injured one.’
I`ve only just seen this…. I think what some pro hunters do is as abbhorrent as anti hunters.
And I hadnt read about Copper, if I had my veiws may have been different
22 February, 2010 at 10:32 pm #432318The reasoning the pro hunters come out with is flawed, in fact it’s outright lies, it’s done for the hunting and for no other reason

still not sure if I agree with hunting, part of me thinks it`s natural, and if foxes need controlling natural has to be better surely? By natural though, I guess I mean just the hounds, no terriers, no eagles, no trapping, no breeding for hunting, just the fox, the hounds, and the horses and humans along for the ride.
My angle on this is I`ve gone shooting, but I`ve eaten the bird, I fish but only to eat, and I want to grow my own veg, raise chickens, pigs, and cows, give them a good life in return for eating them
23 February, 2010 at 1:52 am #432320eeeeek nemesis !!!! THey do it sheerly for the thrill. well maybe up here in Dunkeld and Aberfeldy.. they take off all ceramonial like, to taste the blood. pete i might even have to agree with you
its a crap way of controlling foxes
but its a great day out
i dont ride my self but my daughter does
its a great spectecal
its fun its exciting
not to mention all those lovely ladies in tight riding pantsat the end of the day most who go do really care if a fox is caught
and more often than not there isnt a kill
since it was banned in 2005 more and more people have become involved
its tradition
and why should a bunch of townies who know f all about the country side dictate what people can do
they may have banned it but like most labour policies its flawed
and 6 days a week all round the country hunting goes on with in the confines of the law
and forget the myth that only toffs do it
lots of very ordinary working class people borrow a horse for the day and go and have funi mean could you ever see the french or the spainish stand for a ban on hunting or bull fighting
we are in the ec and if its legal else where in europe then it cant be banned here
sooner or latter it will be repealed23 February, 2010 at 9:19 am #43232372% of those in rural areas do not want fox hunting legalised.

Dunno where those stats come from pete but they aint right in this area as far as im aware, they did a similar poll on radio devon in 2008 i think it was and it was a 63% in favour of for hunting which is high considering the amount of townies/ londoners that are now residing down this way, and are often the ones with most to publically say for them selves. And certainly around the farming communities it certainly isnt right, that figure would be more around 90%. As for the fun element i agree with thin alot do it for the riding mainly rather than the blood thirstness and yes i think in those cases it is just as good and to a degree fair to just do scent trails, but foxes DO need managing. Also i agree that some hunts more the less rural ones in fairness though some rural ones have them too can be a bunch of toffee nosed idiots, that are only doing it for the reason of being toffee nosed and the need to kill, i dont think half of them care what or why its killed just the fact they’ve killed it, again i disagree with that viewpoint too. Yes they need managing and yes its enjoyable riding, but it does serve a purpose and a more natural and successful one than other forms of culling.
