He does a lot more than you realize

Friendly Chat is the first chat community I’ve created solely by myself without help from anyone. It’s not as easy as it looks creating & running a site such as this. (Oi, Herman by the way, why haven’t you signed up yet you big gay !!)

There aren’t adverts all over JC. There’s a couple on the chat page, and one banner at the top. Hardly an ad-farm.

And I now understand why he charges to reserve usernames. I used to think it was out of greed, I really did. But, even I charge for reserving usernames now.

It’s not out of greed, it’s because Chat Forum only lets you have a limited amount of reserved usernames (200 if I remember correctly, Martin?).

Now, I offered free reservations. people would submit the contact form to reserve their username. I would reserve it for them, add their username, password & e-mail to my Access database so I can keep track.. and most of them never see again. And say a year or two down the lines when there’s dozens of requests… it gets a bit of a boring, tedious job adding them all when the users aren’t guaranteed to come back cos it’s free.

That’s why he charges. If someone pays to reserve their name, then they’re much more likely to actually use it, so it’s not so much of a waste of time and space to reserve. I’ve learnt a lot this past 2 months. And I have a lot more to learn yet.

Call me a suck up all you like now; I don’t care, it’s not sucking up.. I just simply now understand why the paid reservations etc work !!!

    As for adverts.

Chat Forum software costs £15 a month. Martin has 4, so that’s £60 a month. He has them customized with a wildcard for ChatGuides, the quote I got was £150. So that’s another £600.

Then there’s webhosting bills, link directory fees, premium search engine submission fees

If there were no ads…… how would he pay that?

If there were no ads.. there’d be no Just Chat. Full stop
