What would be the ultimate team of footy players that you could fabricate using only those you have actually seen play in the flesh? Not those you’ve seen on telly or heard tales told of, those you’ve sat and watched in front of you playing at their best. Here’s mine:
…………………..Shilton
G. Neville…..M. Wright…..Adams…..Pearce
Beckham…..Ince…..Keegan…..Barnes
……….I. Wright…..Rooney

McGrain Butcher W.Miller ?
Strachan Keane Gascoigne B.Laudrup
Larsson C. Nicholas
Subs-Goram, McLeish, McStay, McCoist, McAvennie
Ive seen others like Cruyff, Del Piero, Ronaldinho, Maradona etc, but not on numerous occasions like I have for my chosen ones. My team would clearly take Pikey’s team apart, even without a left back. 8)

The longer you’ve been watching the more difficult it is,I have been watching ,playing ,refereeing and coaching for 62 years, here is my team:->>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Gilbert Merrick
>>>>Jeff Hall>>>>Trevor Smith>>>>Bobby Moore>>>>Stuart Pearce
>>>>>>Paul Gascoinge>>>Alan Curbishly>>>Frank Lampard
>>>>Trevor Francis>>>>>Nat Lofthouse>>>>>>Bobby Charlton
14 March, 2006 at 3:34 pm #203692How come all you Scotties are missing the great Jim Baxter out ??
I have seen that many great players – Best will always be the best for me .
Gascoinge was always overrated in my opinion – there again I am a mackem , Jim Smith at Newcastle was a tremendous player though .My first live match at Sunderland was v Man U – we had Hurley , Kinnell and Baxter – they had Law , Best Charlton and many more
Since then Colin Todd was a great player , as was Dave Watson who served the red and whites well – both as Centre forward and Centre Half
Then I used to love watching the likes of Tony Currie , Frank worthington , Stan Bowles , Rodney Marsh , Don Rogers , Steve Coppell , Peter Beardsley
ffs the list is endless – how can i pick 11
My dad always said that Len Shackleton was the best ever
14 March, 2006 at 3:42 pm #203693He said players we’d seen in the flesh. I aint old enough to have seen Baxter play in the flesh. Likewise Jimmy Johnstone, Kenny Dalglish etc.
