Virgin Media will push broadband speeds up to 20Mb/ps on its flagship XL cable broadband service from May, that’s double the current 10Mbp/s limit.

That makes it the fastest (widely available) home internet connection in the UK. What does it mean in real terms? Well, a standard MP3 music track can be downloaded in around two seconds. The one downside is a price increase – £37 per month instead of the current £35 rate, with unlimited downloads and online security.

I’ll get this + XLtv and Freecalls all day everyday for just 56 quid, worth it or not?

Why is everyone in such a hurry so it takes half a secound instead of a 1/4

    Sian,
And your machine can cope with those speeds?

We are on our own fibre optic network at work and first thing in the morning it’s light-speed but as everyone logs on………….It does slow down, Probably through the sheer amount and systems running

I’ve just ditched my L/Line and broadband at home and gone for the mobile USB modem, It’s a bit slower but works anywhere there is a mobile phone signal. £15 quid a month, For the ”out & about” It’s ideal.

Let me know how it works if you take it .

    Cheers

For some of us “fibre optics” nothing new.

I remember doing my work exspearants at school with BT and replacing copper with fibre optics and new telephone exchanges .

    That was few years ago…………

Is it any better than copper? …………. Well yes it is but not for the reasons you may think.

Its far easier for company’s to lay in the street.

    Cheaper to buy

And the cables smaller than copper.

If you could through it, no one dies.

    But it is glass.

Anyone with a car window screen will tell you how easier to chip and the cables are the same.

The main problem is, being glass it does chip, it will crack and it’s a sod to fault find.

If you have some 5 year old kicking the hell out of a copper cable it still works, you can’t say the same about fibre optics cable.
