Today I talked to a neighbor of mine and came to the realization that maybe the reason we have so many overweight children in this country may have to do with their parents attitudes and examples. Noticing that a lot of overweight kids also have overweight parents. Our son’s school sent home a questionare about how much we exercise with our children. I workout with my son almost every day as it is fun hoping that it becomes a lifelong habit for him as it is me.

I am not blaming anyone here but how much do you think parents play a role in their child’s health?

Probably got a lot to do with Playstation’s and having 10 zillion Channel’s on the TV.

I think parents can make a huge difference in their children’s health by setting a good example with the right eating habits and physical activity. Although, with long work hours and stressful life styles I’m sure a lot of parents just want to chill out and relax when they get home rather than go for a bike ride or kick a ball around.

So, yes I do believe parents play a major role in their children’s upbringing be it health, education or beliefs etc. Some of them need to wake up and realize what an important job they have taken on and how much influence they have on their children. Although, I would have thought that should be obvious to them.
