18 October, 2008 at 11:41 am #383295A friend’s husband ran a hosepipe into his car and killed himself after being falsely accused of rape and enduring a campaign of abuse and vilification.
Another friend threw herself in front of a train after being raped and disbelieved.
Human beings are ghastly creations either way.

There is no smoke without fire but …….. funny how peeps that spotted the the alledged event never mentioned a man forcing himself unwelcomely on the 16 year old.
Still trying to get my head around her dad leaving her by the pool with him at that time of night. Strange thing for a parent to do? :?
Could it of been case of teenage girl crying wolf in the cold light of day?? :-k
I guess even though he has been found innocent I suspect his career is over just as John Leslie’s is. Call me cynical but I think the family set Freeman up from the start but it back fired, so the girl cried rape to save her own reputation.
Sick when you think of the real rape cases that we all hear about.
It dosent appear that he forced himself “unwelcomely” on her since guests heard her moans of pleasure. She is of legal age, and appears to have put it on a Plate.
This is different from the John Leslie thing. It wasnt only a Teenage slapper who was accusing Leslie. This guy’s career could recover since it’s clear the alleged “rape” was a load of nonsense.

That’s just it, for those who are wrongly accused, and for those who have been assaulted, no-one knows of the real damage it can cause! Not just to them, but to the immediate families too.
Pb made a valid point/suggestion, regarding anonimity, until proven guilty, but then like someone else pointed out, it’s the newspapers too, and don’t they just love it when a story like this comes up regarding someone famous!I heard about a young female who was raped by a man, and after the attack she changed completely. She was never the same again! She was so scared that he would come back, and either do the same thing again, or punish her for reporting him, that she took her own life!
20 October, 2008 at 3:03 pm #383298I watched him on tv today and my heart went out to him. I hope he manages to get his life back together.
This will always be a highly emotive subject, with everyone having opinions. I agree with what someone said earlier (PB I think) that both parties should remain anon until proven guilty (if).
20 October, 2008 at 3:09 pm #383299Yup, it was me wot said it
I suspect that i’m simply echoing the view of the majority of fair minded people. Yes there will always be terrible stories (on both sides) where an innocent person is the victim of a rape attack, or where a male is maliciously accused by afemale and so on. Equally the law or the accuser gets it spot on right as well.
I suppose that it’s the ”gang” mentality that wants instant justice regardless of the actual fact in the matter.
Sadly, I really don’t see this situation improving (with anonymity for BOTH parties) as those with an ”agenda” will shout the loudest.

The same goes for men too!
3 November, 2008 at 8:00 pm #383301am I the only person who thinks it was a remarkable lapse in judgement by a 26yr old man to have allowed himself to be put in this position?
Not in any way suggesting he deserved what happened, but a small amount of common sense on his behalf and it wouldnt have.
