Ok guys I have watched this thread with some fascination. Rather than go out & buy a new computer Dave maybe the final solution to removing this persistent litte sod is to re-instal your Operating System. At least that way you will start over with a totally clean environment.
What do you reckon to this Bis??? Is is worth a go??? I sure don’t fancy the option of using a (so called) restore point in Windows ME – after all we don’t actually know when the bug got into his computer.
28 March, 2005 at 10:51 pm #106422Hi PB.
I’d do a clean instal any day before i’d use system restore. I have used systems restore once and i never would again, as it butchers your system.
I know that if i was actually sat at Daves computer i’d definatley of removed this Minibug/Weatherbug. I could only take Dave so far as my knowledge of the ME OS is limited as i have never used or owned ME, i also was’nt prepared to let him loose on the registry because if something goes wrong i aint getting blamed.
I think that even if Dave restored the system to an earlier date the Minibug would still be there, although i may be wrong.
And on a finishing note, Dave you may want to remove your Hijack log as it’s a security risk to yourself.
28 March, 2005 at 11:03 pm #106423Hi Bis, Yes I totally agree with you on this. I have talked a few people through a system restore on Windows ME and frankly it doesn’t do exactly as it says on the tin. For some reason it always seems to retain fragments of stuff in the registry – god knows how.
I reckon that ME was the beta version of XP as far as system restore is concerned.
I agree that letting Dave loose with the registry would be a bloody nightmare and I wouldn’t take responsibility either.
My best solution to Dave’s issue is to re format his HDD and re install ME (or XP if he can buy the upgrade) and start again from there.
29 March, 2005 at 2:57 pm #106424Thanks guys but for some reason (and me being even more of a pc div back then didnt realise i needed any) the guy who installed my pc never left a copy of ME for me to re-install – great eh?
The good news is – so far – touch wood – my IE is working ok – no error messages
Bad news – for some reason my Nero wont work – even when re-install it lol – said some missing .dll’s i think
Ahwell cant have everything i suppose – anyway another question for u guys – Can i copy my list of Favourites to cd-rom for transfering to another pc (if i can save up for one)?
Thanks for all your work guys – dont know which of you won the night with Lucky – maybe she will let ya both lol cheers!!!! (Lucky – dont hit me too hard when u read this babe )
29 March, 2005 at 3:03 pm #106425Click File, then export favourites to a folder on your desktop i think Dave, then save the folder to a disc. :?
29 March, 2005 at 3:26 pm #106426Cheers for that Dave – I will let Anubis do the honours with Lucky (if there are any to be done that is) as he is far more technically proficient than I am. Anyway my wife may well want to delete my Operating System if I went ‘surfing’.
As for your ME issue. As ME does not require registration as such you could borrow a copy of Windows ME from a friend and instal it from that.
However there is a better option if you want. As you have a previous version of Windows already on your PC – you can buy an upgrade disc to upgrade it to Windows XP (Home or Pro) quite a bit cheaper than having to buy a full retail version. The upgrade version will look for a previous Windows Operating System and then, once found, it will completely re-format your hard disk and install a full version of XP (Home or Pro – whichever one you have bought).
Quite frankly this would be a really sensible interim step before buying a new PC, as Windows ME is generally sneered at and with good cause.

Lmao PB, are you feeling lucky?
Dave if you just reinstaled Nero i find it very strange that your missing dll’s relevant to the Nero program. When you get the missing dll error message again, copy the dll that your system is saying your missing and go here http://www.dll-files.com and put the dll’s name in the search box at the top left hand corner of the page. If if has the dll your missing download it and instal it to the relevant folder. If this site dont host the dll’s your missing try googling the name of the dll’s.
Dave did you reinstal IE? and if you did, did you use the registry cleaner before you reinstaled IE6? And is the Minibug still there? it may be worth checking because if you uninstaled IE then cleansed the registry with tune up, it may, if your very lucky to of got rid of the Minibug if it was IE6 related.
