The giant stag known as the Exmoor Emporer has been shot for fun by a hunter. He stood nine feet tall and was apparently quite a celebrity in the area. I know deers have to be culled, but because he was such an exquisite creature he was a target and Kudos for the hunter who killed him. What a strange world we live in!. On the news it said he was shot legally… shame on the law… shame on the hunter!

Yes deer have to be culled, but usually when culling you take out the weakest and/or the oldest. This was not part of a cull, this was a licensed hunter targetting a fine healthy stag, all the reports say that this stunning animal was in good health. Taking him out during the rutting season also means that his genes won’t have been passed down this season.

Apparently he was shot by a licensed hunter, probably for his head and antlers which will earn that hunter at least £1,000 as heads are now becoming more and more sought after by the rich. I thought this kind of trophy hunting had become unacceptable in this day and age, but apparently not.

    Such a shame.

Looking at those antlers, and standing at nearly 9 ft tall, I’m not sure that he was defenceless, but he didn’t have a shotgun, agreed.
