Old flames…we all have them, those girlfriends or in the case of the ladies , boyfriends.
    The ones that got away.
There are a few in my memories that now and then I look back at and think what if? and what went wrong, and would it have worked out or was it for the better. BUT of course we dont want answer to such thoughts because they are nice as they are, even it tinged with sadness.
In a melancolic moment one winters night and after a nice malt whiskey, I let my mind slip back to times past and all the relationships I have had, short or long and suddenly felt old…
I wrote this poem while in the mood, if you know what I mean.

    In search of Yesterday

Our love was like a summer fire,
    Its crackle our desire,
    The sparks our spontaneous kisses,
The heat of the dancing flame was our lust,
The black night sky our blanket

But that was just one of my yesterdays, long ago….

All that is left in the morning of my tomorrows,
Are but the ashes and embers of those flames, the soft white ash lies like snow amongst the last of the remaining heat,
And as I sit here after all of these years,
My gentle friend the wind blows for a sweet moment to relight those flames.

What became of that love, where did it go?
What became of the words we said?
What became of the feelings we shared?
    Why did the flames die?
And what became of the people we were once,
I know the answer is hidden in one of those yesterdays,

I take a stick and stir amongst the ashes of my yesterdays in vain hope of finding you,
But if I did find you what would I say?
That long lost love of long age, that old flame way back in time,
But now the only flames are before me,
    Protecting these old bones,
The wind has become my enemy,
The only crackles in my days are but the autumn leaves of my life,
My blanket woollen about my shoulders,
Heavy with the gloom of your loss,

    Such delight this short moment,
The memory of our love long gone,
But the wind had for a brief moment fanned the embers of my yesterdays,
The pleasure of its warmth sparked again, bringing joy but also the pain,
But for this old man, it is just another one of those yesterdays,

Am I in one of your yesterdays?

it is good to have old flames and to tell the truth I burnt my fingers on a few, but the pain did me good.
