Not just my story though Terry, it’s a common theme in this part of the world unfortunately.
It’s opinion Jen. And very anti-British.
I have opinions too, but try to rely on facts and figures to get my point across.
The UK economy was built on British graft and didn’t rely on Polish immigrants to get it there. We were once the 4th largest economy in the world. These days we’re the 6th.
Poland, by comparison doesn’t have much of an economy and never has had. Do you ever wonder why that is?
As I’ve said before – stick to the facts and don’t base your opinions about British workers on emotion and what you see in your little corner of the world.
31 May, 2012 at 5:01 pm #497905It’s not opinionor based on emotion, it’s fact based on experience. Go and ask those in your area who employ Eastern Europeans why, seek their experiences. I know from the business forums I belong to that it’s not just my little corner of the world…indeed it’s not just Britain.
If that’s anti-British what can I say…it’s time the British pulled their socks up.
The UK economy was built off the back of immigrants, slaves and the colonies…let’s not kid ourselves about that. If you want facts, go and study 18th/19th century socio-economic history. As for why Poland doesn’t have much of an economy, again go study the history of the country.

Minimum wages, plus they prefer agancy workers who can easily be laid off. There are 17,000 employment agancies in this country. And that’s how the Poles got a foothold in the first place.
Again, can i please ask you for facts rather than fiction. That’s if you want me to continue replying to this thread.

The first immigrants arrived in this country following the end of World War II. Their jobs were limited and didn’t really build the economy at all.
We’ve never had slaves working in this country either.
Again, a case of facts over fiction. And I don’t really want waste my time discussing – with you – a subject that you don’t seem able to discuss rationally.
31 May, 2012 at 5:24 pm #497908Easy there now Tel.
Agreeing or disagreeing is grand .. But I can’t abide this total dismissal of posts lark. Jen is making a case, as are you. Reasoned debate certainly gives scope for questioning the interpretation of facts. I defended your right to speak without fear of dismissal elsewhere on this site. I suggest you afford Jen at the very least the respect to be able to do the same.31 May, 2012 at 5:34 pm #497909@terry wrote:

Better in than out I say!
May I ask why?
The Swiss don’t belong to the EU and still trade in Europe (as do the Chinese..)
It costs this country close to £50,000,000 per day to be a member of the EU. Please explain why we need to be ‘in’.
No.
31 May, 2012 at 5:39 pm #497910I don’t have any applications from our Eastern European friends …. they mainly tend to do rural work around these parts….very hard workers…7 days a week …long hours..we see them in the evenings coming in for their bits and pieces….their nice expensive vodkas and beers…they never complain about price increases…they work hard and eat/drink nice….
I have had many a CV from British applicants …. and I am so shocked sometimes at the lack of effort put into the bloody things….some don’t even have their date of births on them….you can get templates off the internet….there is no excuse…and as for the youngsters….don’t the parents read over their kids CV’s??? Point out the mistakes and perhaps help them out :roll:Anyway I am going off thread …I just wanted to put my 2pence worth in……..can I also say….that all these figures thrown around especially how much money is going back to Poland……….as a child of Immigrants from the 50’s…….have you any idea how hard it is to run 2 households? Here….to eat, pay the bills…feed and cloth the whole familty AND ALSO SEND A DECENT AMOUNT OF MONEY BACK HOME????? Many asian immigrants did this, and have gone on to be succesful business people…….now that’s hard work!
I admire the Poles who are now doing what my parents did.. living and working and surviving here and sending money back home to family…
Oh…it also makes me laugh the Brits on the dole who moan about the price of their ciggies and cheap alcohol going up …. how the hell do u afford to smoke and drink on a regular basis on the dole is beyond me :roll:Relevant and non relevant post…I don’t care I just fancied saying that stuff so there!

I’ve never seen a CV with someone’s date of birth on it. How is someone’s age relevant?

The first immigrants?
So the generations of people who can count their ancestors back to Somalia, Ethiopia, other European and non-European countries who are recorded in our Port cities from hundreds of years ago and elsewhere didn’t exist? The jobs in manufacturing as well as public sector and infrastructure didn’t really build the economy? Thanks for re-writing history in such an entertaining way for me Terry.
We didn’t have slaves working in this country because we used them in the colonies and extracted approximately 50% of revenues from said colonies into the British exchequer.
As to rational discussion, Terry, your figures are woefully unsubstantiated and you have a track record of changing them from post to post.
You are entitled to feel emotionally wedded to the idea of a land of hope and glory outside the EU, but the world continues to change and we are a very different nation from Switzerland, which is not problem-free in any case.
To claim that your arguments are valid because they are rational and everyone else’s are invalid because they are emotional remains unsound without more evidence.
As us non-Terries are emotional, we don’t need evidence, but by claiming a wholly rational stance you have staked out an onus all of your own.
This is fun!! Please keep it up!!! =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>
