A genuinely funny man, modest man who cared about his fans. Even after he lost his sight he still replied to every letter personally, writing the letters by hand. When he was asked how he did it when he couldn’t see, he said “You don’t forget how to write.” Then he told how his puzzled secretary brought him back a pile of blank paper and asked what he wanted to do with them…his pen had run out of ink!

    RIP Eric xx

I love that film! He was Mr Tuttle.

Can’t remember his tv shows though.

Mr Tuttle, as he now is, had a great line when he was Eric Sykes, but it’s from memory so I might get it wrong.

“My view is that we’re all idiots, really” opined Mr S. “the dangerous ones are the ones who don’t think they’re idiots”

    very true, that

I just liked having him on the telly, even when he wasn’t that funny. He seemed a genuinely nice man.

    Is he dead then?
