DEMANDS for a ban on “un-Islamic” activities in schools will be set out by the Muslim Council of Britain today.
Targets include playground games, swimming lessons, school plays, parents’ evenings and even vaccinations.
And the calls for all children to be taught in Taliban-style conditions will be launched with the help of a senior Government education adviser.
Professor Tim Brighouse, chief adviser to London schools, was due to attend the event at the capital’s biggest mosque.
His presence there was seen as “deeply worrying”, and a sign that the report was backed by the Government.
Terry Sanderson of the National Secular Society said the report was a “recipe for disaster”.
“The MCB shouldn’t try to force its religious agenda on children who may not want it. The Government needs to send the MCB packing. Schools should be about teaching, not preaching.”
The report, Towards Greater Understanding – Meeting The Needs of Muslim Pupils In State Schools, says all schools should bring in effective bans for all pupils on “un-Islamic activities” like dance classes.
It also wants to limit certain activities during Ramadan. They include science lessons dealing with sex, parents’ evenings, exams and immunisation programmes.
The holy month – when eating and drinking is not allowed in daylight hours – should also see a ban on swimming lessons in case pupils swallow water in the pool.
When swimming is allowed, boys should wear clothing covering their bodies “from the navel to the neck”, even during single-sex pool sessions, while girls must be covered up completely at all times, apart from the face and hands.
The MCB adds that schools should ensure contact sports, including football and basketball, “are always in single-gender groups”.
Even school trips are targeted in the report, which wants them all to be made single-sex “to encourage greater participation from Muslim pupils”.
It wants Arabic language classes for Muslim pupils, and says the Koran should be recited in music classes. And all schools should ensure they have prayer rooms with washing facilities attached, it says.
In art classes, Muslim children should not be allowed to draw people, as this is forbidden under some interpretations of Islamic law.
And while the MCB insists that all British children should learn about Islam, it wants Muslims to have the right to withdraw their children from RE lessons dealing with Christianity and other faiths.
The MCB says special treatment and opt-outs are necessary because otherwise Muslim pupils will feel excluded from school activities and lessons.
The MCB claims to be the voice of Britain’s 1.5million Muslims and was heavily courted by politicians including Tony Blair following the September 11 attacks. Its former secretary-general Iqbal Sacranie was awarded a knighthood in 2005.

The more you sit on your comfy sofa’s watching eastenders and coronation street, the more these people will campaign to change the way your children live in the future. Once its part of everyday schooling for muslim children, it will be encouraged for all pupils. You will be deemed “racist” for backing out. You will be demonised in your society.
The MCB is a non elected body, but still manages to get its beliefs accross to millions of people.
WAKE UP!!
2 March, 2007 at 9:05 am #262753Sorry, but if someone wants their kids educated here those kids should represent themselves as “british” and act accordingly. If they cant do that then there are more than enough countries elsewhere in the world that CAN accomodate their requirements
Its not like our culture magically appeared AFTER they arrived in an attempt to make them uncomfortable, residency here did and still should have clear unwritten terms of conditions, and if someone doesnt like OUR culture they dont HAVE to stay here and endure it do they?
For as long as we have had muslims here we’ve had countless other members of pretty much every faith on earth, all of whom have managed to fit in AND still practice their religion, muslims included
This kind of nonsense lends credence to those who were classed as paranoud racists in the 80s claiming we were being subtly and slowly “invaded” and our culture would be undermined, diluted and eventually overrun by islam
Back then I thought it was laughable warblings of the paranoid, now not much more than 20 years later they are beginning to look like visionaries who could see what nobody else could see but who were incapable of putting it forward in a sane way
2 March, 2007 at 1:44 pm #262754I agree totally Uber .
What ever happened to the old adage “When in Rome ……………………..
Too many people are coming to this country trying to change our culture – or impose their cultures on us ; there are numerous examples of this from education to employment to recreation
A few of my pet hates being :
Why are guys wearing turbans allowed to get away without wearing a crash helmet on a motorbike – thats the law – either get a big bloody helmet – or take your turban off !!
The schools that stop kids celebrating Xmas , Easter etc
Jews complaing about the smell of bacon from a cafe – ended up the extractors were moved ot pacify them – ffs this is England – bacon and eggs country !!

My instinct is that these ”warblings of the paranoid” was not people being visionary or anything like it. They were just saying what was plainly obvious to them.
The problem then was (as I recall) that anybody who dared to suggest such things was instantly howled down by the so-called liberal intelligentia; was accused of being in some way ”racist”;was attacked and vilified in the Press / Media; and so on.
It became practically carreer suicide for any public figure (or one having the public’s ear) to make ANY comment that in any way suggested that our way of life or culture was in danger of being undermined by immigrants / asylum seekers / decendants of naturalised Britons etc etc.
Look what happened to Enoch Powell as a perhaps extreme example of this.
Nowadays, with the growth of religious fundamentalism, terrorist movements etc, the truth of the situation is becoming so bloody obvious that it is risible to make any attempt to deny it.
2 March, 2007 at 7:01 pm #262756The problem is uber, its “british” born muslims aswell, that are demanding change for our kids.
Drivel, this is New Labour’s “rome”, foreign cultures are allowed to roam and infest themselves in our society culture. Its not the muslims so much, its those who let them get away with it.
PB, i cannot understand why you say all that, as if you agree with it, but crucify the BNP, who were part of those you agreed with back in the 80’s?
2 March, 2007 at 7:02 pm #262757It’ll never happen. So why get worked up about it?

Emma, I am not aware of setting out to crucify the BNP – but I have to confess that I do enjoy taking the piss out of them. But then taking the piss out of any political party is fun (for me) as they all suffer from a total lack of humour.
The BNP sets itself up for ridicule by the constant moaning and whingeing of its acolytes about ‘how unfair it all is’. Endless bellyaching merely provokes a derisory two-fingered response.

So politics is about humour? Take part in the Red White & Blue festival, plenty of humour.

Then you’re in a perfect mind set to understand the reasoning behind whatever ridicule is directed at you for your constant moaning and whinging of the BNP…OR, we could be just that little more adult and learn to understand why it happens.
3 March, 2007 at 12:03 am #262760I’m really sad now Emma. The irony in my remarks went completely over your head.
Do try not to take yourself so seriously Emma – or to put it another way ….. Calm down dear – it’s only politics.
3 March, 2007 at 12:15 am #262761Thats a pathetic blag, you have been found out, and you dont know how to get out of it. You are a big kid at times.
