Oh good grief. Sweaties queuing ’round the block to take the píss.
I thought Ireland played out of their skins. They were everywhere and gave no one any time on the ball at all. Heroic performances all ’round. Part of any game is purely physical and, despite being obviously superior athletes, England failed to match that sheer competitiveness.
That said, our system let us down, I think. David Beckham is not Paul Ince, and Gerrard and Lampard are wasted just fetching and carrying for him to spray longer than need be passes about. Rooney was wasted on the left – we should be sticking with the system that had served Sven so well up until now – a more or less flat four in midfield that rotate between positions.
I can’t believe that this experiment will not be ditched by Sven. No need for a knee jerk get rid response with regard to the management or players, I reckon. We’ll finish top anyway when sanity is restored and we’ll have learned a valuable lesson.
Also, I must say we deserved a bit of egg on our collective Anglo-Saxon faces. The media showed a complete lack of respect to our opponents and tempted fate all day long by openly joking about the possibility of an Irish win. It’s supposed to be the BBC not the EBC.
Worth saying jolly well done again to the Irish and also, obviously, the Jocks who were marvellous tonight as well. =D>
Absolutly spot on =D> =D> =D>
